The Bad Machinery (2009-2017) archive has been restored.
As promised, the archive is back up. It’s a no-frills presentation but I’ve included all the extra material from the books that was on GoComics, dozens of additional pages. Enjoy!

Hooray!
I was just telling my friends about your extensive comic history and now I can share this! Great timing 😁
At the risk of getting on the “hamper list”, the Characters page on the new archive shows a picture of Amy next to the description of Mildred. Intentional?
Nonetheless, my joy at seeing these without having to visit the evil empire (GoComics) is undiluted and ecstatic.
Yes it was intentional, of course. Mildred and Amy are the same person. All true readers know this. Is this the noting of a mistake couched as a question? I’m sure it can’t be. Just as I’m sure there had better be hampers in my future.
In America, hampers are what you put dirty laundry in.
it was, improbably enough, an honest question. But only because I’m the sort of person who tells themself, “Maybe there’s a perfectly legitimate reason that person burned their toast to smoking charcoal/locked their keys in the car, etc.”
Sigh, reconfiguring my annual budget to allow for hampers.
I was just going to peek… I am a very busy person. I read 32 pages before I caught myself. If I let myself go, I would read all night long. Great stuff.
Thanks!!
Yesssssss. This series hits the sweet spot of intense nostalgia for me, no matter (or because of?) how many times I read it. All the mystery teens. So evocative. Thanks John.
It’s newer for me, but I’ve always felt it had this nostalgic angle to it. Maybe it’s how it works as a coming-of-age story for our six leads. Having it take place over a few years helps that gradual difference too.
The phone version of the page won’t let you zoom, but telling the browser to display the desktop version is a fine workaround. With that feedback out of the way, time to binge it again for the rest of this bus journey…
Glad to see this back in a much higher resolution.
Bad Machinery has held up incredibly well, with its characters, art and writing still super sharp today.
My only real request is that it would be convenient if there was a way to be able to individually select pages, like if each chapter on the archive list had its own sub-menu. This way we don’t have to go clicking through dozens of pages just to find one. I understand this would take some time to implement.
Also, what archive do you think you’d want to restore next when you have the time? I saw on the Steeple/Destroy history post that you were also considering doing this for classic Bobbins.
There’s no way to distinguish the pages in any meaningful way as an index other than numerically, and there are 1265 pages. Sorry, Luke.
I might put the classic Bobbins archive back up but the archive is still on Keenspot to read, so likely not until that vanishes. I can’t resize the art for a more modern website (most of the hi-res files were lost in a damaged backup more than 20 years ago) and some of the web files are very small.
I assume it’s due to the limitations of the rarebit engine then. It’s still a step-up from how it was on GoComics, so I’m glad we have a cleaner archive either way. One day it would be cool to also see The Big Hiatus included, but I understand if it won’t.
The Bobbins Keenspot website still works pretty well for the most part, and it’s cool how that’s been able to survive for over 20 years now. Preservation is always key.
OK… the archives of Bad Machinery (and several other comics not including Scary Go Round) are at scarygoround.com. And the archives of some other comics (not including Bad Machinery) are at badmachinery.com. Entirely logical!
What do you intend to do to fix this, Dan?
This was INCREDIBLY quick, John. I did not expect you to get it done this soon. It’s a lot of work – thank you muchly.
Thank you so much! It took 3 days, but I’ve gone through it all again. My apologies to your bandwidth. It’s really amazing to see how the characters grew over the years.
