We all remember the 80s pop star Sinitta (best friend of Simon Cowell). And we all remember the very violent Spider-Man story about the Sin Eater. But which one is best? there’s only one way to find out…. FIGHT!
So Shelley put on her fur coat just to walk across the street and back… Style queen!
And the boots. Let’s not forget the boots. (I know I won’t.)
I had a jacket exactly like that! It’s nice to think I may have been a style queen in my youth…
Belated birthday wishes to Harry Hill.
(And my money’s on Peter David over Sinitta any day.)
I’ll never forgive that Sin-Eater story for killing off Jean DeWolff.
Maybe Della should have prayed harder.
Or interpreted Shelley’s “cumin” recommendation as Della’s prayers answered. I.e., the modern parable of the deeply pious man who’s house is sinking refuses the aid of his neighbors, someone with a boat and paramedics in a helicopter convinced God will save him. When he drowns and gets to Heaven he asks God why he didn’t save him and God replies that he sent him his neighbors, a boat, and a helicopter.
It all depends if having a taste from a spoon counts as being touched by an angel (if so it will taste heavenly, and Della will quite correctly be unsure as to whom the credit should be given).
(The Wikipedia page picture of Ms. Reese in the kitchen is eerily redolent of Della here)
Shelley does try to see the good in everyone, doesn’t she?
Or at least the potential for good, and the recognition that some paths to goodness are more long and winding than others. I’m sure Shelley’s right, and there’s a bright future for Andy as an investment banker.
She did once befriend a dying wasp.
So did Ender Wiggin
Loving Shelley’s mischievous wink in the second to last panel.
Della seems to be a very nice person. But invite someone for offer them a questionable stew is not really a good thing. Love Shelley’s remarks about weird silhouettes.
I’ve noticed that some excellent cooks are over-critical of their own cooking which can be a bit irritating when they start apologizing for some failing in a dish which is actually the best you and everyone else around the table has ever tasted.
This might explain why Shelley seems eager to eat the stew.
It’s not just cooks. I have had to train myself to not reply “Actually I flubbed the solo in Such-&-such-tune, I’m kicking myself still” when someone compliments a performance.
Sure: my *roommate* invited you, not I. A likely story!
Inviting someone to try a questionable stew is definitely the sort of thing you’d do if you had an ulterior motive…
Will Jack become a… toy boy?
There’s a reason Jack came from the future and it might be to save that stew.
It wasn’t the – wink – in panel 5 that made me laugh … 🙂
Ha! Wow, I totally missed that!
Goodness! I missed that on first look as well.
Same here!
Why would making cocktails in front of the the curtains be embarrassing?
She’s sweet to show her understanding. Like men should know about those “nice warm baths with the candles, incense, and soft music” that girls like.
Young Shelly seems so good natured… And yet, in panel #2, she seems quite cross.
It is an earned crossness because Andy is, as established, more Potential than Nice right now.
For the record, I’m speaking very literally. 🙂
I see what you did there.
o-ho, so you are! the tiniest visual Steeple crossover
I see Shelley is sporting the dark brown nail polish of the mid-late nineties. (Very specifically I would say 97/8.)
S.I.N. – a new acronym enters the lexicon.
Also, I have not experienced the music of Sinitta, or that Spider-Man story, but surely both are blown away by Carla Speed McNeil’s Sin Eater story in Finder.
EVERYTHING is blown away by Finder. When will there be new Finder, aargh
she’s a lil annoyed at his impertinence earlier. He is not quite giant enough to get away with THAT.
Jack has established himself as a man of mystery, which beats just being fit.
Especially since Bruno is gianter.
I beleieve the technical term is “more gianter”.
I love Shelly’s left hand in the penultimate panel.
Now THERE’S a lovely fantasy!
