Hey hey, here’s one
Sadly we will not have time to go into why Lottie and Claire started to go Dangerous Liaisons with fans. It was just something they got into for a while.
Sadly we will not have time to go into why Lottie and Claire started to go Dangerous Liaisons with fans. It was just something they got into for a while.
“Came a cropper”, Lottie? Or “went face first into a mountain and had to have PLASTIC SURGERY?” Now who’s missing the big clues?
We know that Lottie tends to have a blind spot about some things. I think Beate was someone Lottie genuinely never really noticed, in any serious way. Still, you’d think that Claire would have guessed. Maybe she just couldn’t reconcile the hapless girl she’d briefly known with the evil manipulator behind the present-day danger.
I mean… Beate is someone she barely interacted with, over the course of a few days that were several years ago, and she wouldn’t have had any reason to realize the level of Beate’s animosity towards her. And it’s not like there’s a shortage of people that Lottie knows have legitimate grievances against her, so Lottie not even recalling Beate’s existence isn’t that incomprehensible. It’s likely both Lottie and Claire completely forgot about Beate as soon as they got back to Tackleford, simply because there wasn’t much of a reason for either of them to retain any memory of her.
I agree that it would be a stretch for Lottie to even remember Beate consciously, but given that this is a dream Lottie is having, perhaps her Subconscious has put the clues together and is trying to warn her.
I don’t think this is a dream Lottie’s having. I think this is a flashback that we segued into through Lottie falling asleep. none of what we’ve seen has been from Lottie’s point of view, and there’s a lot she would have had no way of knowing about. And the beginning of the flashback says “Three Years Earlier”, which implies a flashback. not a dream.
That’s what I was thinking. Lottie wakes up on the train and remembers Beate and wonders if she is a clue to what’s going on in the present day.
Brackets mean they’re talking in German and it’s been established that Lottie’s German is… on par with her French. She and Claire probably caught just enough to know there was an accident and didn’t catch the plastic surgery bit.
And the break from all caps to minuscules probably indicates he’s talking more quietly, making it harder to hear the relevant information in the first place.
Exactly. We can’t really expect Lottie to catch whispered German from across the room.
Maybe her German is quite up to picking up the finer nuances there. Especially since cheese was inexplicably never mentioned once.
Gah! Lottie’s outfit – my eyes!
(also ‘Flet’ is perfect – John is an onomatopoeiaist extraordinaire)
Is it an homage to the cover of Sparks’ Kimono My Place? Hmmm… “This town ain’t big enough for the both of us”. John is a subliminal genius!
I hope to see them on their upcoming tour.
Claire just likes to shred things when she’s excited or unnerved, doesn’t she? Maybe it’s her safer substitute for lighting things ablaze.
She’s creating tinder.
Actually, shredding the fan is proper hand fan language to indicate scandule.
The crown seems really sad about what happened to Bea. Maybe she had more friends that she thought.
Or at least there was less animosity towards her than she may have imagined. People can be indifferent about a classmate and still be shocked and frightened to hear that she has had a terrible accident.
This arc is great btw
Poor psychopath. Being bullied by her own brain to hate someone who’s only crime is beauty and being good at solving.
I like how this story introduces two characters both named Uli
The real question isn’t “why did they do the thing with the fans” but “why don’t they do the thing with the fans any more”
What?! I missed a page insert yesterday!
The page-a-day week of the grande finale does have a habit of creeping up unannounced!
I was left completely confused and kept thinking it was Wednesday. Mind you as I’ve got older I’ve found that’s not unusual.
I have extended the story lengths to numbers divisible by three from here so this is probably the last grande finale week. Part 4 of Wobbly Head is 24 pages – feel the quality! The story that follows is 33 pages – UNCONSCIONABLY IRREGULAR.
“Unconscionably Irregular” was the name of my performance art collective in the 90s.
We… drifted apart amongst arguments over our inability to keep a schedule.
More pages at a slower pace? The quality is immense! For those not patient enough, there’s always Patreon to get everything at once.
A fractionally slower pace, I would say. Including covers, 25 pages in 8 weeks rather than 23 in 7. A mathematician could probably tell us exactly what this “means”.
Drat! I should have written “regular pace”. There is nothing slow about you, sir.
Counting the cover, one week will get four updates. I suspect the meaning would be different depending on whether that week is the first or last of the eight.
That reply only had 23 thumbs up, not only not a multiple of 3 but a prime number, and that cannot stand. Now it has 24.
See this is what RSS is good for. (When it’s working.) (It’s mostly working.)
Poor Beate, her face swathed in bandages as she flicks through the plastic surgeon’s mugshot catalogue.
Even worse – what if they made the decision while she was still unconscious, and PICKED THAT ONE FACE.
This mystery defeat really caused her to lose face.
Random thought I had while reading the comments. The final panel of part 2 had upturned Scrabble tiles that could be arranged to spell Beate, as one of the commenters noted. My assumption was that Claire did that before losing consciousness to leave a clue for Lottie. But what if Beate was signing her work?
With an X left on the tray thing as a little kiss? By Jove! I think you might be on to something there!
Wee Claire grows taller and taller
I was just thinking – Claire and Lottie must be rather hot to require the service of those fans…
Classiest fan service I can think of.
>Airlifted to Bayern
Do you mean airlifted to München? I thought they were near Garmisch-P. which is very Bavaria
(Although if they wanted to secede they have my full solidarity from Franconia)
I was wondering that myself. There is a hospital Klinikum Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and they do have an accident surgeon listed on their website, though his reconstructive specialty seems to be in repairing hands… OK I got way too into this.
I meant Munich of course. The problem is that I write the scripts by hand, very fast, and the thoughts are unedited at any point, so playing Sensible Soccer as a teenager means I remember Bayern Munich football club and write the wrong word down, then transcribe it, without ever questioning it.
I just remember Oberammergau from the tongue-twister we were taught in high school German language class.
A girl heabutting a mountain sounds like the exact conundrum they should have a specialist for in Garmisch!
“ why Lottie and Claire started to go Dangerous Liaisons with fans.”
It’s incredible fun – no further questions M’lud
