Claire and the Fire, a touching friendship. You can almost call it… Love! Let’s hope that the people at the concert don’t start talking about the new English k-pop band which already is a huge success among teens.
The Fire shooting straight up reminds me of the father in “Fox Trot” when he lights up his barbecue.
Once one of his sons came and said “It is NASA on the phone – you brought down one of the sattelites – again.”
What is that harsh 4-stroke buzzing (generator) in the wilderness with awful vintage rock music and glaring lights fading out the stars? Oh yes, vestigial boomers and X-ers imposing themselves on everyone for miles.
Dunno. The fire looked more *angry* than *intense* to me.
I hadn’t pegged Claire as a camping snob, though.
Not a camping snob perhaps, but definitely her pyromaniacal tendencies from her youth have carried over (in a safe controlled environment of course).
I was referring to her snobbery re: the other campers they have found.
When you get a +5 to any Start Fire rolls, it’s hard not to be a little full of yourself over your campfire-starting abilities.
I don’t recall any of Little Claire’s fires having faces in them before.
I’m sure it’s nothing.
Well, Colm’s face was in one of them for a bit. He recovered, but he lost his eyebrows.
Are we sure Mordawwa didn’t appear in one of them?
Very reminiscent of the Fire King from Adventure Time.
Oh those two chaps in the last panel are definitely going to start a podcast.
Really enjoyed the palette shift (and lengthening shadows!) across this one. Great details, as ever
Yes, “You want it darker?” I can hear someone saying.
Hineni, hineni.
Never, ever, let Little Claire make the fire. Not that there’s any way you could stop her.
Perhaps Claire’s lisp goes hand in hand with her fire raising tendencies. When you hear her say “Yeth pleath” reach for a bucket of water.
Little Claire is the fire. The fire you see is just a small reflection of the true Little Claire.
I hope they didn’t just go off and leave the angry fire elemental Claire summoned into that stone circle unattended.
Chekov fire element. It will burn everything at the end.
I am sure that unattended fire is banked and slowly going out.
A new title to her repertoire. Claire; Lighter of Fires, Scourge of Glampers.

My guess is that D-Slide has already flamed out, much like Claire’s campfire.

Call in a drone strike.
Claire could offer to “freshen up” their fire…
Following the sound of music and merriment while in the wilderness? Bad move. This is how you get giant spiders. Do you want giant spiders??
In England? In the Tackleverse??
There is much crossover-chi in this oeuvre. Ya never know.
I always called them Turdis… but I am sans couth.
Was that, perhaps, meant for the previous page?
Referring to the glampers as turdis would certainly be uncouth, too, though.
“Uh, Colonel? We’ve detected a nuclear launch in the United Kingdom, from a previously-unknown missile site off the A57!”
“Sorry, can’t give you any information about that. It’s Claire-sified.”
I’m almost ashamed to admit that I only just noticed the “But alas” in panel 3.
Oh, god. It took me this long to realize when Claire says low-grade funk, she means the music.
It may be time to adjust my ADHD meds. Or get back to caffeinated coffee.
I missed that, too. And so did Lottie. So we’re in good company.
Could it not be both funks?
It was both funks as Nomi suggests. A “dual meaning” if you will.
