If it’s any consolation, when I spent the summer trying to write up my MSc in Edinburgh, my bedroom looked out onto Cowgate (just up from the Gilded Balloon) and my office looked out onto both South Bridge and Cowgate. No respite from the Festival or the Fringe, even on the telly (Mark Lamarr, broadcasting live from outside the Gilded Balloon…)
