I dunno, that explanation works in panel 4, when it’s a whole pie with 8 slices and 8 pieces of pepperoni, but in panel 5, it looks like deliberate statement to me. They can afford pepperoni pizza, but it’s the cheapest version that still qualifies as pepperoni pizza. Any less, and at least one slice would just be cheese pizza.
