Abthtruthe
Claire has taken up residence in Lottie’s room as the doppelgänger crisis continues to unfold. And in a classic case of “know your enemy”, she seems to have split herself into seven. Glenn sticks to an easy-to-manage single presence.

All while MiniChibiLottie and Garfield look on.
Chibi Lottie watching them make me worry. The lil version of Lottie could both have nothing to do with Evilottie, than be her, able to shapeshifting, and using her small form for spy her enemies.
The Chibus is not evil!
Thank you. I’m so happy to know that!
You need to make a T-shirt that says that.
I love T-shirts with context-free surreal slogans.
I still don’t understand this fascination with my printing things on tshirts
Something incoherent to the out-group yet immediately indicative of membership to in-group by use of a cute reference? You can see the appeal! We like our fellow comments section and we love our referents.
My “Death has a Bunny” shirt is one of my prize possessions, even though me wearing it now violates several obscenity laws and regulations.
I remember that shirt!!
Mine is my “Stressed? Devour your enemies!” cooking apron
Agreed. The Tea-Towel is the superior merchandise form!
We want tangible, physical objects that we have given you money in exchange for, and there are only just so many books out there.
I’m still kicking myself for not getting that one tea towel years ago
Likewise, I’ll always kick myself for not getting the Nostalgia Is A Drug T-shirt when it was selling out a long time ago, complete with floppy disc iconography.
The fondness for these old items is really nice. Sadly, I lost the knack for making them.
Even when Lottie is gone, a little Lottie remains.
And with seven Claires in frame, we have a lot of Little!
A Little goes a long way…
Why Garfield? Way over my pay grade, maybe something to do with the 4th Psyop Group?
We’ve seen evidence that Lottie’s a Garfield fan before.
I think a stuffed Garfield was on top of the TV in a prior page so I had to draw it again. This is called “continuity” and if I accidentally break it, I am mercilessly teased with dad jokes in these comments and lose the will to live, so I have to be careful.
Ah! It’s those details that keep me drawn in on EVERYTHING in the panel … not because I have plans to toss dad jokes at any discontinuity (I don’t) but because they add to the character and make your productions far more enjoyable than the rest of the players.
This is the first time we’ve seen MiniChibiLottie when Lottie herself wasn’t present, I think.
“For where two or three are gathered in Lottie’s name, there MiniChibiLottie is with them.” Claire 18:20 (Tackleverse Standard Version)
Not to mention The Malign Spirit of AntiLottie!
Arial 10pt, man!
You absolute heathen.
Helvetica 17 point. I will die on this hill!
Pishposh, it’s Garamond 12pt or barbarism!
Comic Sans, 40 pts, every letter a different color.
Man, I hate your type.
Comic Sans is the most powerful typeface. Perhaps, too powerful.
For full effect, this should also use the BLINK tag, but alas, no modern browser supports it for some reason.
That reason being preservation of our eyeballs and brains.
That reminds me that as I was drifting off to sleep I suddenly wanted to know if geocities was still around because I had a great awful idea for a geocities page which, to the great relief of humanity, I have since forgotten
CSS allows you to fake it, along with a lot of even more offensive effects, using the animation keywords.
@keyframes blink {
0% { color: inherit; }
49% { color: inherit; }
50% { color: transparent; }
100% { color: transparent; }
}
span.cursor {
animation-name: blink;
animation-duration: 1s;
animation-iteration-count: infinite;
}
Trebuchet, 14pt. A superior typeface AND a powerful siege weapon!
Times New Roman 12pt! They must never know!
At this rate, he probably hasn’t even chosen between serif and sans serif.
If it’s an action plan in paragraph or bullet-point format:
• serif
If it’s a flowchart → sans
Baskerville! The font of the Midlands Enlightenment and the British Museum!
That or Papyrus.
You sir, can wait in the hall.
Caslon, accept no fancy modern substitutes.
Arial should be consigned to the flames.
Monotype Dante is pretty good.
10 point? You must be a youngster. I need 12, at least.
Claire seems to be in crisis too. Good thing Glen is able to still contain his emotions. On the other hand, a world with 7 Claires would be a very interesting place.
I find it so reassuring that even highly productive comic artists know the seductive call of the terror nap.
I think such a world would be fully engulfed in flames.
Nah. If Claire split into 7, only one or two would be pyromaniacs, I think.
Maybe this is what’s happened to Charlotte: the cartooning equivalent of the transporter accident from ST:TOS “The Enemy Within.”
“entruthed” (my initial misreading of “entruthted”), seems like a nice Allisonian coinage. Worthy of being kept at the ready.
I’m just in awe of “abthruthe”. I can imagine John coming up with that one and then designing a fake Lottie script solely so he can uthe it.
Or should it have been “abthtruthe”? I don’t care anyway. It just looks wrong.
Yes, the “abthruthe” in the speech bubble seems to be missing a T.
Not any more. I guess everything stops for ‘T’ (boomalacka zoomalacka whee).
I’d a big fan of the old tv in the corner and what do you MEAN there’s more than one purple puffer??
There’s more than one Lottie, there’s more than one Claire, I don’t think a doppelPuffer is anything to be astonished by.
It’s like dog actors in a movie, where several identical dogs play the same part. One puffer jacket can only learn so many tricks at a time.
Isn’t there a waist-puffer and an over-puffer?
Sometimes you don’t need to go full puffer.
Never mind all that, Glenn, there’s baseboard molding behind Claire’s reflection while there is none behind Claire! Indeed, that “mirror” shows every sign of actually being a clear piece of glass with a doppelClaire standing right behind it! That’s the crisis you need to resolve!
Crisis of Infinite Claires
Crithith.
Claireth.
The true crisis is how you guys are going to have to buy me another £6000 hamper to stave off my high dudgeon and retirement just one day into the new issue. I’ve not even finished the cognac butter from the last one.
Do Fortnum and Mason offer some sort of subscription plan?
JICYAC, that’s the rug.
Some sneaky artist change the picture a bit since it was first released.
In reading this comic I presume the whole thing happened in about 4 seconds. Including the very flirty shoulder hug with accompanied coquettish foot curl.
Alas, the effect was countered by the criticism. Netted zero in advancing advances.
As a Kiwi, Glenn misunderstood Claire’s accent and has been on a jobsearch site for the past hour trying to choose a Courier.
I thought Claire handled this rather well, all things considered.
And we’re already off to a great start!! I love John’s single splash panels charting a single character’s frantic movements, and spastic near-panicking Claire is so perfect in this!!
Claire sensibly takes off her glases before collapsing on the bed
i imagine even if youre tired, youd have to be very tired to fall asleep face first on your glasses
I think it’s only happened to me once in my entire life.
Very tired, or extremely intoxicated. Perchance both. Allow the speccy lads a large one now and then.
I, too, need restorative slumbers
I’m lucky that I don’t know enough about fonts to get stuck in the weeds selecting them.
NO! It’s a briar-patch (or a tar-pit, or a Worm-hole) so you shouldn’t go there without proper survival training!
Font design is basically just the fashion industry, but for text.
Many fonts are excellent (and many are not) but you can only use one at a time IF your computer’s OS allows it. I prefer hand-lettering and calligraphy.
YARG. That’s all I have to say. YARG!
It’s morning where I am and it’s time to play spot the differences between last night’s page and this morning’s!
I continue to admire your dedication to Dutch camera angles.
Re Claire: (Abstruse- Hard to understand, Profound.)
“How can you thtill be choosing a font!”
I feel called out.
Two mugs on the floor by the RH lamp and one on the table
Three mugs, two people
I’m guessing Claire has used 2 mugs and left them both on the floor since Glurnm is too focused on the 3-font problem
Or maybe they’re all the same mug. Maybe Claire quickly moved it around the room, as she moved herself. So, we see multiple Claires, and multiple mugs. (And just how many hampers do you want us the buy John, anyway?)
I like this multiple mug theory!! No need for an additional hamper at this time but don’t close the Fortnum and Mason tab in your browser
One or more may be Lottie’s. One of the things established in the very first panel of Solver was that Lottie leaves her coffee mugs lying around.
They’re Lottie’s abandoned mugs!
