Don’t break a hip
Have I got flick flacks for you today.
LATE IN THE DAY ADDENDUM: the original final page of this story told you the ultimate fate of John Cloake, ie whether he perishes on the cold cobbles or survives to drink another day. But I changed the last page at the last minute and neglected to include this information. So remind me on April the 8th to tell you whether he survives or not.
Well, that could have been worse. I mean, John may have broken something in the fall, and that’s serious, but I thought the clowns were going to disappear him.
I’m sure they’re just going to get their tiny little car to load him into.
Hmmmn. But it only looks like there are three clowns in this encounter. That’s not enough of them for them to be able to fit in a tiny little car, even with John added.
Maybe there are other small groups of clowns “disappearing” other individuals throughout Tackleford at the same time, and they all use the same tiny little car?
Can you even _drive_ a clown car with only three clowns? I understood you needed at least seven to operate one of those things.
The car is pre-loaded with 27 other clowns, to allow for a speedy getaway without dangerously unbalancing the vehicle.
I’m so sorry for John. He looks so fragile and defenseless and the Clowns are so huge and mean ♡
I’m happy it came with an explanation of what a flick-flack is.
Well, my predictive capabilities were not very robust in this instance. John got Clowned!
A cautionary tale of what happens to society when the E.S.B. is replaced by the I.P.A.
I like my IPAs but if I’m in a British pub or faux-British pub, I will always take an ESB over anything else.
I had to look up what an “ESB” is, I think it’s one of those things that we export to the USA while not really drinking ourselves any more, like Bass Ale or Newcastle Brown.
Lol. I’m actually not very surprised to hear that. Is it mostly just lager, stout and whatever microbrew trend is going on in the UK then?
Carling, Guinness, a range of Greene King Ales, and Doom Bar.
Microbrew trends seem similar to America, more cans, DIPAs, flavorful stouts, maybe more sours than the US.
Well, you’re not exporting it to us (Sweden) anymore, either, because it’s getting very hard to find anything except IPA and APA here too 🙁
That sounds like a *mystery* that needs investigating
I hear this is what Jack and Linton are working on these days, having reached drinking age along with the girls. Jack in particular, harking back to his Mod phase, is very interested in the rise and fall of traditional English beer styles.
I hope this is true.
It is.

As far as I am concerned.
At least you live in a country whose beers are still prized!
Have you ever had a Budweiser? I think US exports of Bud may be banned under international weapons treaties at this point.
“ESB” is just a way to market “bitter” without having to give it a name that Americans don’t understand and marketing people are afraid of.
Sad to hear the English aren’t really drinking bitter any more! If there was any place where I thought malty beers would hold out against the hops onslaught, it would be–well, it would be Germany. But if there were TWO–
But if there were TWO, they would be – well, they would be Germany and Austria. but if there were THREE …
They’re not clowning around. Seems their idea is that Johnny be working on…nothing at all.
I fear that if nobody finds John he’ll die of hypothermia.
Poor John, I hope Lottie and Mildred decided to trail him. Damn, these clowns are 20x scarier than the Joker and Pennywise combined.
Is Rumbelows still going in Tackleford, then? SGR universe connection: among the many electrical goods retail businesses that were acquired by Rumbelows (at least in the “real world”) was NEMS.
Rob, this is such a beautiful fact.
Ain’t that just like a clown? Commit an act of violence and follow it up with a snarky joke. Clowns and cinema action heroes have that in common.
In my version, John is rescued by none other than… Robert Cop! In: Robert Cop 3: No Clownin’ Around!

The forced fall and flop
By the fiends from the Big Top
Will only come to a stop
With the righteous Robert Cop!
I heard there was a Robert Cop/Mordawwa crossover film in the works.
There’s a parallel universe *somewhere* where the Robert Cop vs. Morag Limited Series #1 green-cover variant is worth exactly $574.81 at market, and that’s the one living rent free in my head right now!
Is Cloake dead? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Nvm I read the description. With great prescience, I wait agreely to find out the fate of Sir John.
