True story: I always used to mishear the lyrics of Dancing in the Dark a bit, toward the end of the song. Where the song says
“You can’t start a fire
Sittin’ ’round cryin’ over a broken heart”
I always heard it as
“You can’t start a fire
Sittin’ ’round tryin’ to glue a broken heart”
I still like my version better 😉

Hey, what happened to the steeple website? It has a new layout and everything. I guess it seems tidier now but for me it feels a lot more plain, I think I’m going to miss the old one with the banners.

I need to upgrade from the current theme, which is unresponsive on mobile devices, and unsupported. I’ll keep making the Steeple site more interesting as I master the mad CSS for the new theme.

It was so good. Even for me, that I’ve read maybe four issues of Xman in my entire life and only saw the cartoon in the 90s. This makes me want to know more about them.

For a Marvel Comics issue title, I can’t say Kitty is particularly wrong there. Professor X can be kind of a jerk at times, which is presumably one of the requirements to be part of Marvel’s version of the Illuminati, seeing as generally its other core members include Tony Stark, Namor, Reed Richards, and/or Doctor Doom (sometimes somehow at the same time as Reed being a member)?
That is a WILD cover drawing. The perspective! The tiny arm! The oddly narrow hips. The style of the hair though, I love it. So art nouveau-ey!

I’m pretty sure Delwin was trying to play off of Wolvie’s “He’s no Gordon Lightfoot” line in that last panel. It didn’t come out as well as it probably seemed like it would, is my guess.
Speaking as someone who spent much of the ’80s reading Chris Claremont X-stories, I didn’t take it as anything bad. I’m just saying, we’d all be poorer if we didn’t have both Chris Claremont stories and John Allison stories.
I kind of want to see a Chris Claremont Bad Machinery case now.

I’m having a milestone birthday at the end of the month, so a trip into the 1980s was a special treat. Terrific fun — and if this was a hastily-thrown-together romp (or however John described it a few weeks ago), it was beautifully done.
