I don’t know who issues Barista’s Licenses. There’s probably an ombudsman of some sort. But based on the brutally burnt dark mass-market roasts available at the majority of UK high street coffee chains, I’d rescind most of them as a matter of course and make people reapply for them. I realise that most baristas are only working with the beans supplied, but someone has to take a stand.
Chapter: SOLVER
It is nice to share
Fort William in Scotland
When we saw Beate’s lodgings earlier in the story, they looked to me like the sort of place where infestations would be an issue. I read somewhere that the colour yellow wards off bedbugs. Apparently it reminds them of the sun. Or Mr Happy. Look, I’m not an entomologist. I’m just someone who is terrified of bedbugs.
Fulsome talents
Beate’s inferiority complex re: Lottie is poorly thought through. Not only can she drive, she can drive a Bedford Rascal, which is a sweet ride by anyone’s reckoning. Why am I so fascinated with the Bedford Rascal? I don’t know. It’s just a modest-sized van. Readers in global territories outside the UK may remember it as the “Suzuki Carry”.
Extended permanently
Do you know what Bovril is? I would imagine that a section of the audience do not. It’s “beef extract”, a bit like Marmite, you can make “beef tea” from it.

Unfortunately I can’t find an ad for the slimy spreadable semifluid version, only the granules, but you’ll get the idea.
A sexy little effigy
I’ll take statements later, lads
It is by now well established that Lottie doesn’t like it when dramatic situations place fish in peril.
Very herbal
When Skelottie turned up with her bag of provisions, the comments were so preoccupied with Dean’s vertical monitors that they hardly questioned what might be in the bag.
A wider strategy
