I.T.N.G.U.T.I starts Monday
A new eight-week story starts on Monday. It features faces old and new, but a new setting. Think of it as both a sequel and a prequel. This is a “pilot” for a new series, if it is well received, there will be more next year. If it stinks up the joint, we’ll all agree to forget it.
A PDF of the whole issue will be available to my $3-and-up Patreon subscribers on Monday.
What? Its the 20’s, ain’t used to it

Sadly, my <blink> tag on the P didn’t make it through the filter (and I don’t think modern browsers respect it anyway)
It works great on modern, advanced browsers like Netscape, or Mosaic.
Woo-hoo! Tori Amos!
What wizardry is this?!
I’m going to guess this is a reference to the prequel comic where Shelley, Tim, and Ryan are in high (secondary) school?
A non-looping animated .gif? What is this, the nineties?
My browser window only fits the top half of the comic image, so I had to download it and take the animation apart with the GIMP to see what was going on.
I looped it just three times to frustrate and annoy
I only see it loop twice.
Same here.
Haha! I forgot that you can set a specific number of loops for a .gif animation, so I assumed the repeats were copy/pasted frames.
For the authentic nineties feel while investigating the animation details, I would recommend using Microsoft Image Composer, the program I used to make my first animated .gif in the nineties.
Oooh- new setting- very exciting
Flannel shirts! Nirvana! Doc Martens!
Oasis vs. Blur! AOL! The Starr Report!
Well this is entirely exciting!
But is there time for Klax
There is ALWAYS time for Klax. Personal hygiene and gainful employment can wait.
Is Klax like Plax, the mouthwash? Wasn’t there a video game called Klax?
Klax was coin-operated video game in the 1990’s, one that sucked up a great deal of my time and money as a youth. When the game was in attract mode, the intro splash screen had the words “It is the 90s and it is time for… KLAX!”.
John, I’ll be honest: was expecting and looking forward to more Bad Machinery. But you’ve proven time and time again that pretty much every new idea you come up with is gold. (Heck, I was skeptical about Bad Machinery because I wanted more Scary-go-Round!)
So, now I’m very much looking forward to whatever craziness you’re planning now. 🙂
Technically, John hasn’t done any new Bad Machinery since a few years ago.
I still think of Solver as Somewhat Later Bad Machinery. I guess I’m just waiting for the Mystery Boys to show up (as we all are, in spite of everything John has told us of his intentions)
“If it stinks up the joint”. 😶. Has such a thing actually ever happened with any one of your comics? ( I don’t mean your harsh self-criticism, I mean viewers rejecting it?)
I was going to say basically the same thing. The worst John gets is sadness that we don’t get to see the existing characters/story-lines continue indefinitely but it seems that every time we all get over that toot-sweet.
I never think I’m stinking up the joint when I’m making a story. But there’s always someone who doesn’t like whatever I’m doing, and explains at length why. If I read that comment on the wrong day, sometimes… projects can be prematurely derailed.
There are always haters. Sad, bitter people whose only purpose in life is to spread misery.
Please don’t let them get to you. You can always take a vote before killing a project. I’m sure you’ll always find far more love and support than disapproval.
I think the criticisms that sting are the ones that speak to our own insecurities.
Sir, you have only to point to these haters, and we, your loyal fans, will descend upon them in a hideous orgy of destruction.

I ALWAYS forget that when John announces a launch date for a new series or episode it’s for the cover so I show up ready to dive into plot and/or character development 🙁
On the other hand, it gives me something to do this weekend….. anticipate!
If you subscribe to John’s Patreon, you’ll get the whole story sooner (I assume it will be sometime today, or tomorrow at the latest). Although some of us prefer to read the stories as they show up here, anyway.
I am a subscriber but I never “read ahead”, I like the measured drip-drip-drip of thrice weekly releases 🙂

This feels like it is going to be amazing
I never got used to the Nineties when it was the Nineties. I was still living in the eighties during the nineties. Next thing I knew it was the oughties.
I don’t this I really ever got used to ANY decade. I think the rule is that it takes 10.1 years to get used to a given decade.
JACK!! (I think that is Jack?)
If it’s the nineties, it’s not Jack, unless a time machine is involved.
Well I’ll be.
