The savoury segment
Process servers are a standby of US legal dramas but I was interested to learn while writing this page that we have them in the UK too. Why not serve legal papers to a friend today? Make ’em feel seen.
I watched this video several times. I think there’s a whole Stath Lets Flats-style sitcom in it, waiting to emerge.

Dean seething yet hiding in fear of confrontation shows a clever characterisation with a perfect drawing
One does wonder, however, just how much money Dean could realistically expect to get out of Gllihrm, Lottie and Claire. If they scraped up everything they have it wouldn’t be enough to buy a second hand push-mower…
I think maybe what he really wants deep down is just an apology and a little more respect
Dean did say to Mr. Khan that what he wanted was to put the Solvers out of business. He seems to feel that would be doing a civic service.
KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!
They’re barely in business
The Solvers are barely solvent!?
It’s not about the money, Mr. Durgan, it’s about sending a message.
Dean is such a diiiick and can get in the biiiin
I’m telling you, Dean is perfect recruitment fodder for the Satanists of the Bobbinsverse.
I somehow managed to forget about Dean’s lawsuit from like three pages ago, and my first thought was that this was Groom’s would-be wife reentering the fray.
I couldn’t but these pages take up a lot of brain space as does the team fracturing again. I didn’t think it’d happen this fast.
Also, having his hair up makes Dean look younger. I generally consider the man-bun to be an error unless worn with daishō, but it seems to be working for him.
I believe we’ve seen Dean in a kimono before, he probably has an “authentic” display for his swords.
Feudal Japanese fashion suits Dean well as it does other Nipponophile Western villains like Geese Howard in the Fatal Fury fighting game series and more recently Fowler in Blue-Eyed Samurai.
Western oligarch villain Larry Ellison, feudal lord of Oracle, had a Japanese phase.
Other western villains?
I’d add James Bond in You Only Live Twice to the list
A disguise so appalling in every way that some wit sarcastically posted his photo with the caption “Can anyone identify this Japanese actor from You Only Live Twice? He’s not credited so perhaps he was a local hired as an extra”
Personally I felt it was on a par with Benny Hill
This has long been a personal aphorism of mine: “If you are considering growing a man-bun, ask yourself if you are Toshiro Mifune. If you are not Toshiro Mifune, do not grow a man-bun.”
It has served me well all these years, and today I look like a Buddhist monk who’s let himself go a week or so. It doesn’t matter. All the color let my hair a decade ago.
Obligatory Achewood: https://achewood.com/2016/04/01/title.html
I like it as a nice visual shorthand he’s regressing. He’s right to be upset but is going with revenge over just ..talking to them like a human being.
End of the friendship between Glenn and Dean. My biggest regret is that we’ll never see them doing a trip together as good friends.
Dean seems like he could be ferry people.
I read “be ferrying people” and thought of Charon.
Dean would be fired almost immediately. It’s impossible he wouldn’t ask for way more than a coin for ferries souls across the Acheron river.
There’s still hope…
Yep. For a forced journey together.
Friendship ended with GLENN
Now
DARKNESS
is my
best friend
Nice poem. Very fitting with Dean’s situation right now.
In a way, it’s just as well Ygln learned of Dean’s animus in this manner. And not from the harsh rejection of his offer of a ferry voyage that I am sure that Dean would have delivered.
Oh, Dean. Going towards the darkness at last.
Hello darkness, my old friend
I’ve come to talk with you again
Poor darkness, nobody deserves that.
“Hi, this is Darkness
I’m not available at the moment but please leave a message after the tone…”
Dang. Being ghosted by Darkness is either extremely metal or extremely sad. In Dean’s case, I think we can portmanteau the two and just go with extremely mad.
I haven’t come to talk with YOU, Durgan.
The process server had additional documents in the names of Glurm Dorgan, Garf Dargan and Ygln Derbyshire ready to go, just in case.
Could the process server get any more generic? He looks right out of central casting.
I imagine he doesn’t have much more of a storyline. Or, alternately, he may have a vast and fulfilling extracurricular life as a serial killer. I suppose we’ll never know.
That’s Khan, you’ve seen him before.
Not unless he’s suffered a terrible accident since his meeting with Dean.
well if he has I think I know where he can find a lawyer
You’ve just convinced me that the process server will turn out to be the single most important character in the story.
Dean Dean is the kind of person who believes his manbun is called a waxless chonmage.
Well, I fell down the rabbit hole of samurai hairstyles, armor, and history. I love this comments section.
Stath Lets Flats mentioned!
Galileo!
Of Dean’s many not fine moments, this is not the finest.
I think that last panel demonstrates why this is a particularly bad decision on Dean’s part. Glenn knows him too well, at this point.
Dean’s lawsuit will fall apart as soon as it’s reviled that he provided the drugged beverage. Yes, he in turn got it from fake Shem… Lottie, fake Lottie, but still.
Dean’s used to being reviled.
