Stop pirouetting
That last panel wasn’t in my original rough, it arrived out of nowhere at the last minute. And I was very glad that it did. I hope you like my era-appropriate Katamari Queen Cher.

Has it been established that Dean actually has a better nature?
He will when Claire’s done with him!
Baptism by fire they call it
What you did there? I see it.
I see we’re channeling Cher in her demure costume phase, although the positioning of Claire is suitably provocative and empowering
I lLove Glernn’s confusion and curiosity over what he’s witnessing
*just meant to put one L in love there ^
(you can choose whether to go with the upper or lower case one)
I guess you could say it works in either case …
Going to be honest here, I thought that was Tim Curry’s Frankenfurter at first…
You see Glorm, there’s strong and then there’s Tackleford strong.
If Claire could turn back time
It would be worth her while
To take back the actions that hurt Dean
And he’d smile
It is curious that there is an ‘h’ in silhouette, but none in… no. No, I am not going to indulge in petty nitpicking.
English is the punishment English-speakers get for conquering people and taking their linguistic baggage. They got diseases, slavery and to be written out of history, and we got inconsistent spellings.
Ugh, that got dark.
In fairness, as a Dane, I have to say that a fair chunk of it came from being invaded by the Romans, by the Norwegians, by us (more than once) and more. Bits of English is just Danish that’s been mixed with other languages since 1066.
Personally I think you should have retained the verb conjugation being independent of the subject. But discarding gendered nouns was a good choice.
England was the one that got invaded and conquered — by the Romans, the Saxons, the Vikings, the Normans. That’s where the language came from.
I ALWAYS want to know about typos and spelling errors. I just don’t want them couched in a cryptic crossword question or a snarky “joke”.
He’s criticizing the French. Silhouette, but pirouette. But then he spun that shadow of a doubt.
Silhouette comes from the name of a dude. Étienne de Silhouette (1709-1767). His family came from the Basque country, and Silhouette was a francisation of the Basque name Zulueta, a tiny town in Navarre.
A pyrric victory
After ‘hirsuite’, I assumed that ‘pirhouette’ was a deliberate whimsical misspelling.
I never noticed that before. There really is no H in “no. No, I am not going to indulge in petty nitpicking.”
I wonder if Sonny knows about this?
I love that Cher is drawn in the same style as Katamari that John used in some Solvers/Wicked Things back. Also up until the end, Claire seems actually quite good at pirhouetting. Did she take any ballet that I’m not aware of?
Her ankles are too Little and buckled.
Does that box say “Pizza Mang”?
I think it does.
I’m glad there isn’t a Pizza Mang near me, I’d never order from anywhere else!
Sidebar may imply we are getting that ferry adventure after all, though what excitement there is on a ferry remains to be seen…
I think that Claire thumped her melon.
Is anyone else (in the U.S. I expect) annoyed by those “Check Your Melon” concussion awareness ads like I am?
It’s fine, she repurposed the concussion stars in the last panel
I’m in the U.S. and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a “check your melon” ad. I don’t think that would fly well here, but rather send smarmy minds toward other melon slang (breasts).
I have no idea what you’re even talking about.
The ads that have been annoying me lately are the “homeowners turning into their parents” ones, which I’ve begun to suspect aren’t even actually insurance ads as they purport to be, but rather part of a larger conspiracy to discredit the very concept of home ownership.
I agree. That joke was barely tolerable at first, but it is now being run into the ground.
I do very much appreciate Katamari Queen Cher! And Claire is the cosmic princess who will roll their troubles away. Simple, right?
So, this story is about Claire’s epic fail in fixing Dean’s ability in feelings that Love & Understanding thing? Poor, poor Claire! Even being inspired by Cher in that awesome last panel seems too little to stop Dean and his lawyer.
Cher vs. Khan!
Bobby Problems vs. Dean?
Cher Khan? Is this The Jungle Book?
John, you are so generous. Thank you for Cherring.
Sorry, “era appropriate”? Just to a referenced music video, or does this strip take place in the past relative to something known?
To the referenced video – that’s Cher’s outfit from the video
The appropriate Chera, as it were
Thank you for the inspired last panel, John, I actually started giggling at how delightfully absurd (and unexpected) it was. I like Katamari Damacy, and the style immediately brought that to mind.
Surely it’s clear that Claire does not share the sheer presence that Cher does
(I can type that but I can’t say it as quickly!)
As a lawyer, my first instinct is to look up the legal definition of “dishonest and fraudulent.” No wonder my profession is so appreciated and beloved.
Did your definition of “dishonest and fraudulent” contain many references to the word ‘lawyer’?
Here the New Zealand Law Society operates a Lawyers Fidelity Fund to compensate clients who have suffered financial loss due to theft or fraud by lawyers. I recall some time ago it was the Solicitors Fidelity Guarantee Fund but that was decimated by a large number of cases requiring compensation and the now compulsory contributions from qualifying lawyers has increased dramatically
“Expecto Cher!”
