I…I gotta call my mom.
“Hombres De Hombres”, version en español
Versión en española, apparently.
(Quite clearly that part of the credits was not done by the responsibles of the Spanish dub. I remember it being quite good and there are some truly excellent voice actors on that list).
I haven’t watched it but I believe Man Men is a series based in the 1930s about cigarette salesmen who worked in Man-chester, who became Man-Men and made amazing amounts of money (some of them made thousands of pounds!) while surrounded by beautiful women
(You’re welcome)
Early 1960s actually.
Sorry Ross, I was extracting the urine and pretty much nothing I put up there was correct
I should have made it clear I was being facetious
Man Men is completely different to MAD Men, which is about a group of nuclear strategists and the women who love them in the early 1960s, as mentioned above.
I’m confused now – I thought that one was about Don Martin, Sergio Aragones, Antonio Prohías, Al Jaffee &al.
oops, I missed your comment and tried to make the same joke…
I would edit or delete, but the past is irrevocable in these comment threads. Curses, my every foible must be preserved for posterity
As opposed to “Mad Men”, a series which covered the wild adventures of Harvey Kurtzman and his pals as they founded the long-running satiric magazine. Known for its romantic depictions of clouds of cigarette smoke wafting past its protagonist’s strikingly large ears.
So I take it I should visit Rotterdam some day.
Probably not unless you’re really really into ports and want a break from the overtourism of Amsterdam.
That sounds quite good, actually.
I mean, what I really want is just to take a train to Den Hague and see the MC Escher museum which I infuriatngly didn’t have time to see when I was there for a conference years ago and our director had decided to also schedule all of the time that we weren’t doing the conference too.
I’d go to Utrecht or Leiden or Tilburg instead. Rotterdam is nice enough, but it was heavily bombed in WW2 and except for the docks, it’s a bit of an ugly city.
Ports and art and quirky contemporary architecture. So cool that our heroes saw both the Boijmans-Van Beuningen Depot and the Cube Houses – and the Erasmus Bridge to boot! I’m sure they also went to the Market Hall for a snack but were too tired by that time to take any photos. Poor Dean, though.
The contemporary architecture definitely is a draw.
A difficult draw, I imagine, yet superbly done by Mr Allison
There’s also the Buttplug Gnome and the unicorn poop by a small dyke. A lot of really weird art projects and sculptures. XD
Or anywhere.
Liverpool or Rome?
as long as it’s in the South, which I understand is beautiful
Oh my. Slides? Oldest of old school!
Awwwwww. Dean wishes he’d been involved!
Well, he WAS involved, in the sense that the whole thing was (partly) his fault. He just wasn’t THERE. You can be involved in something without being physically present.
Good point!
A carousel, but not the R. Sikoryak kind.
https://carouselslideshow.com/about/
Is a Scary Go Round a type of carousel?
It’s a scarousel.
Not The Hollies kind, either. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrCahAhqpKE
Another one for the teens!
In the SGR universe, I think that the Hollies would be known as the Buddies.
Making physical slides from what we must assume were digital cell phone camera files represents a significant effort towards their desired effect!
While I’m certain it can be done, I’m equally certain it’s not worth the time and trouble.
My grandparents had a slide viewer back in the 70’s. Not a carousel style, but just the straight tray. It really wasn’t worth breaking out the equipment and loading a tray. (I think a tray held 50 slides. Maybe? I don’t remember. I just wish someone had digitized those slides. They’re long gone now.
It’s £3.49 per slide at digitalslides.co.uk. They’ll do you a custom Viewmaster reel for £35. Go hog wild!
I was right. Not worth the time or trouble.
Something is rotten in the city of Rottendam.
I’ll be damned if we don’t find the rot
Man men is the best. They don’t come any more manly.
They had so much fun! Dean would have loved to join the trip. Seeing all the good architecture they saw, Shauna would have been happy to come with them too.
Especially with her studies in Urban Planning.
Were those slides taken with a disposable camera? Or are they a result of some weird Zambian supplemental service?
Aww, it’s so nice to see them having fun! (sorry, Dean :+) Glad that Glenn is feeling much better ^^
Thank you John, for adding our dreaded cube houses. The pride of no one except those who chose to live in them.
I’ve visited them a few times over the years, always loved them.
Dean’s Draper-esque pose in panel 2 is lovely.
I’m so confused by this page. I get the Ma[d] Men references, I see the Rotterdam landmarks, but why are they doing this to Dean? “Good luck in your next meeting” wut?
They appear to be trying to reverse-Clockwork Orange him into being decent human being and functioning member of society through whatever the opposite of aversion therapy is.
I think they’re still making him pay for his part in almost losing Glenn, as well as his attempt to put them all out of business. Believe me, I well remember as a kid how much I dreaded my grandfather pulling out the slide carousel late at night after dinner just before we’d leave to go home to show pictures of his latest European trip.
When they said “This is a time machine”, for a second I thought they got their hands on a Nemulon.
Look closely at Panel 4: https://badmachinery.com/comic/2026-04-10/
I recently started watching Mad Men for the first time and only just saw this episode last week, so this page is just an impeccably timed delight for at least one loyal reader.
