Chapter: Hull Or High Water

Very merry (HULL OR HIGH WATER concludes)

Another chapter comes to an end, and I am declaring it possibly my best Solver to date. Next up: CHRISTMAS SPECIAL, of course beginning in April, I know how to time these things just right. When you see the parade of pals returning for this glorious celebration of all things Saturnalian I am sure you will forgive my appalling time-keeping.

Thirty minuters

We are barrelling towards the next story, CHRISTMAS SPECIAL. Lottie’s representation of pumpkin spice is Ginger Spice at the Brit Awards in 1997 with a gourd on her head. I don’t think there is any better way to depict it. My favourite disgusting Christmas coffee drinks were the Costa (or possibly Caffe Nero) range where the cups depicted seasonal bodies eg snowman, Santa, elf but there was no head and the cream and sugary syrup slurry on top made it look like the Xmas Friends had been brutally decapitated.

I believe the following year, they had half-heads, so they’d effectively had the Lucy Liu Kill Bill treatment. The murder sludge was toned down but that made it look like brains.

It’s a time machine

Perhaps someone will get the subtle references in today’s page and illuminate the less hip members of the audience.

MAN MEN:

The ole bottom line

Lottie and Claire definitely perform a queue-jumping faux pas today. The mission ends as it begins, with a fog horn.

Pull the flipping emergency brake

The captain’s hat. I suspect they may have got this not from the ferry’s captain but from the Captain from Captain and Tennille. The moral of the story being that love… love will keep us together.

These lads needed more keyboards. Plainly five was not enough. Please refer any teenagers who might be interested in this video to today’s comic because this, too, is one for the teenagers.

Should be easier

I can prove beyond all doubt that it takes a mess of help to stand alone:

Is that the Captain from Captain and Tennille on piano? Please ask a teenager because this is one for the teenagers.

We’re on board

Lottie and Claire are in their own way just as (if not more so) intimidating as Cathey, but it’s important to emphasise: at heart they’re extremely nice people. You’d like them if you knew them.

Pick a side

I don’t know what a “serverless edge platform” is, I had to ask for help.

A major character dies

Earlier in the story Claire was wearing a blazer, but in the club scene she has a leather jacket. There’s a fun game you can play in the prior pages where it is possible to work out who she got it from. I say fun, it’s barely fun. As for Lottie’s outfit, I just think she keeps it in her “go bag” for any time she might have to go full vamp. That dress was £4 on Vinted.

Interpol Lottie and Claire are dangerous characters, aren’t they? We’d better hope that door never swings open again.

Sea cruise

As the UK’s #1 bowlderiser of lyrics, this comic represents a career high point. Everything I learned making NEMS led up to this super slow and gloomy, legally bulletproof version of “Sea Cruise”. If you are not familiar with it, allow me to “sealink” it below. There’s a lot of gum chewing in the audience during the brief preamble, OO-WEE BABY.

Another one for the teenagers.
