Ah, here it is — Melody Maker, March 1981, review by Adam Sweeting: “In ‘My Life in the Bush of Ghosts,’ with an assist from collaborator David Byrne, Eno revisits his sophomore album, ‘My Time in the Lair of Merlin.'”
It’s clearly a reference to Rick Wakeman’s seminal album The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. So that would be ~1975, which is nearly spot on.
C’mom, doesn’t everyone know that the way to write hit lyrics is 1) Identify idiomatic expression for chorus, preferably from Shakespeare, previously unused in top-40 songs; 2) add nonsense in verses about love and longing that sounds vaguely like sexual metaphors; 3) come up with quirky name for publishing entity and register it in the Netherlands for tax purposes
They didn’t realize that to make it with the first song you HAVE to push to the extreme, then after the inevitable blowback and sudden surge in popularity, retreat to the safe space for the rest of your career. See Bowie and Madonna for models.
I’m not sure that D-Slide could survive a night of Cards Against Humanity. When I play it with my friends, we are absolutely ruthless in our use of our knowledge of each other.
Just when I thought Brian Eno couldn’t get any cooler…..did a 3 am deep dive. Now have this website bookmarked. Thanks John Allison. *thumbsup, Wayne’s World style*

John explained what Nether Edge is back when we first met D-Slide as a group. In his words: “Nether Edge is a suburb of Sheffield. It’s a great place to live, work, and start a boy band.” https://badmachinery.com/comic/the-mood-is-tight/
About time Brian Eno got involved with K-Pop! He’s already ruled every other musical development of the last fifty years
“We’re not a drug band, Gizmo!”
(Gin bottle in background)
“Straight edge” “K-pop”
They have opened the vault of Eno. There is no going back now.
Good for Nero to be oppose of drugs. But Lottie’s confused/desperate face in the same panel gives the impression she’s not against trying that way.
Lmao great catch
“Or ARE we?”
Loving Lottie’s lack of self awareness at the “written by overconfident fifteen year olds line.
Or she could be displaying self-awareness through sarcasm.
I think, Nero, your second option seems the more likely.
Well, vaping is the gateway to vaping Satan’s pee, or whatever the K-poppers are calling MaryJane extract nowadays. Good think Gizmo has a plan.
Perhaps that’s the conspiracy part: the 15-year-olds conspired against their future selves.
Isn’t this pretty much normal behavior for a fifteen-tear-old?
From the time of King Arthur?
What ho!
I thought Brian Eno was at most three centuries old. Four, tops. I stand corrected.

He’s old enough that he originally wrote Making Tiger Mountain
Brian Eno was in the Four Tops??
The Once and Future King of K-Pop.

Love is the drug!

No, they have an antacid effect when taken orally.

I was genuinely concerned he was reaching for Cards Against Humanity, which would have absolutely killed any future school gigs.

Some rounds cut deep. Deep to the bone.
Think of the radio
I gave my daughter a box of Oblique Strategies cards for Christmas! What a great reference.
Eno has as good a claim to be the avatar of King Arthur as anybody you could name.
“Try faking it” should come in handy!
OMG OMG OMG OBLIQUE STRATEGIES

Oh it worked! Zangggg.
What is Nether Edge? Is it a neighborhood like Copper Edge?
It has a “great vibe”: https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/news/local-news/life-leafy-sheffield-suburb-great-21409928
Nether Edge is the portal between Greater Sheffield and the Nether World.
