SOLVER 2022 SPRING SPECIAL starts April 4th
A new story starts on Monday, the SOLVER 2022 SPRING SPECIAL. I had a big story worked out called The Great British Bump-Off, but I got cold feet about it. It was too long and complicated to serialise on the web, so it has been kicked into the longest available grass. What takes its place is a 22-page story assembled from the ideas I had at the top of my head the day after I set aside the Bump-Off. Under the circumstances, I think it has come out well.
This cover is amazing
I hope you reuse that logo for future projects.
Who needs lovers when you’re a solver?
What an awesome smile♡. Great cover and amazing logo.
This fills my heart with anticipatory joy. Especially after GoComics just reminded us of Lottie’s chaotic exuberant nature : https://www.gocomics.com/bad-machinery/2022/03/30
Welcome back Ms. Grote.
Laaaa!
Regardless of project, anything with Lottie in it is always a welcome sight.
Yay!!
I am well pleased.
This had better not be an Elaborate April Fewls Shenanigan!
April fuels a lot of shenanigans.
Charlotte is always great but this is an especially great Charlotte
😍
John,
Nothing is “too long” for the Web. Many of your esteemed colleagues have done multi- year stories. Judging only by the title, “The Great British Bump-Off” was on track to be a masterpiece; we will wait for it as long as we must and as patiently as we can.
Alas, Frank, I could show you in grim detail the long-term decline of reader numbers that ensues when I “go long”. Having enjoyed the storytelling benefits of print comics, I have a better sense of what works in what format – the Bump Off was a print quart being forced into a web pint pot! It will be reactivated elsewhere I am sure.
John, I know it won’t make any difference, but I’d like you to know that what would make me really happy would be stories of yours that just go on forever. (Especially Steeple stories. These are the best things you’ve done so far.) But so long as you’re writing it and drawing it, I’ll be happy.
I, for one, will be very excited when the Great British Bump-Off makes its appearance, whenever and however that may be.
Let me just add to the happy comment counter here
Yay! Charlotte and her love of mystery had always been my favorite BM character. Plus de Charlotte!
I wasn’t expecting this. YAY
I was. Double YAY!!
“If you got a problem, yo, she’ll solve it.” -Hopefully not the motto of Charlotte Grote: Solver.
Looks promising. Will we be treated to a J’accuse?
Tell us the truth. the Great British Bump-Off was obviously suppressed by the Go-Kart Conspiracy. I’ve said to much. (Quietly disappears)
(Bah! Typos! Completely ruin the air of mystery I was trying to evoke!)
Does she just solve ODEs or go all out and solve differential-algebraic equations, too?
Complex analytic integrals.
Wondering if the opening installment has anything to do with Tackleford’s most prominent landmark — the PEAS + BEANS factory.
I’ve always wondered — and this seems like a “safe space” to admit my ignorance — how is ‘Grote’ pronounced? Here in the states, I’d probably pronounce it like ‘Groat’ but I seem to recall (but can’t find) a Bad Machinery strip where someone rhymes it with ‘potty.’ Is it ‘grotty’?
Generally in the U.S., I’ve heard it pronounced GROW-tee.
I think potty Grote was to rhyme Lotte Grote. Fwiw I’m like you and say ‘Groat’
