Chapter: SOLVER

The hump

Old Stoneface disappoints. Dean is a classic old man before his time. When I was a student, there were a few of these entities. We all know one or two of them. They seemed old when they were 21, but as they get older, they simply become more themselves. And more you becomes you! But look at all those new friends at the bus stop! Hopefully, eventually we’ll get to meet them all.

Not ferry people

To Glenn, I am sure the UK’s passenger ferries seem as exotic as New Zealand’s eel café seems to we British. Have we discussed the eel café before? It is my hope that eventually Solver will visit NZ, but I fear I may have to bodily travel there to capture the “vibe”.

Warmer than this old place

It’s good to see the old friends back together. Time has passed very slowly in Solver. Lottie arrived in Sheffield in September (in 2022), and it’s now November. This glacial pace wasn’t intentional, but it’s good to acknowledge it. Scary Go Round used to run in virtually real time!

SOLVER: LITTLE DAYS starts on Monday

Happy new year! After a seven-month break, Solver returns on Monday for what I hope will be a full year of adventures. My first job is to complete and publish volume 2, with the Wobbly Head saga making up the first portion, and three single-issue (but connected) adventures rounding it out. The first one, LITTLE DAYS, starts on Monday.

The whole issue will be downloadable in PDF format for my Patreon subscribers on Sunday. And as a new year begins, I’d like to thank all those subscribers. Your support keeps this comic running; without you, I am not sure it would be. I am immensely grateful.

Solver returns January 5th

Thank you for all your support, attention and kind words in 2025. I wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

A mad idea (WOBBLY HEAD CONCLUDES!)

A Smiffy’s sexy skeleton suit abandoned on the rocks? It could have come from anywhere. Nothing to worry about, I am certain.

This is the end of SOLVER: WOBBLY HEAD, and by association, WICKED THINGS! I did it, I finally tied up something that had been nagging at me for five years. I sincerely hope you enjoyed reading the story as much as I did telling it.

Solver will return in early September with a chapter called “Little Days”. There will be no new pages for the next two weeks, as I am in the process of wrapping up work on SAVAGE SWORD OF SUSAN, which begins here (and will appear in full on my Patreon) on June 23rd. Apologies for the short break but I think you’ll like this next tale. It hits hard. You’ll really feel it in your thews.

Pleasantly esoteric humour

HUGE PLOT REVEAL THAT AFTER THIS WEEK WILL NEVER BE DISCUSSED AGAIN! But again, this would have eventually have been part of the continuation of Wicked Things.

Hostile

You may ask why Miss Maki is dressed as a cheerleader in panel 4. I couldn’t decide whether it was for a case, or whether her being a part-time cheerleader, totally at odds with her character, was a good character note for the imaginary manga she and Miyamoto star in. But had Wicked Things run on past issue 6, you would eventually have seen a whole issue of this.

Freak leap

Miss Maki also appeared in Wicked Things. Her intentions were occasionally obscure. But her outfits clearly signalled a woman of precision.
