Five more minutes (BOYS LIKE FUN CONCLUDES)
Here we are, the final page of Solver, with matters as up-in-the-air, arguably, as they began. Will the series return? I don’t know. We have to think that it might. Series tend to return by popular acclamation, so let me know when you’re ready for a redux.
Next up, seven weeks of something called “Kit + The Wolf”. We’ll have to see what that is tomorrow. I’ll tell you this: it’s not like anything else I’ve done. It’s not even like Mordawwa.
I’d really love more Solver, but I’m VERY excited for Kit + The Wolf.
Same here. I can’t wait to find out what it is.
Wow, what a ride! I always download the pdf from Patreon, just for keepsies, and read the dailies for the comments and the extended fix. This last week was the closest I ever got to reading ahead.
Put me in the “Please sir, I want some more” pile!
“Will the series return?”Let me answer that for you, John: Yes, yes it will.
Calling it now, the dowager is Lottie, she was so upset with the breakup she’s fallen back in time and turned into Miss Haversham.
Also: you can’t leave it hanging here??? We don’t even know how to spell Glorm’s name yet. And Chibi Lottie is still out there, somewhere, in search of an edge to look over.
“…turned into Miss Haversham.”
No relation to Mildred, of course.
I want more Claire & Gomm.
This may be your most heartbreaking ending ever.
agreed
Urf, that last panel
My HEART
Thanks for all the Solver we’ve gotten up to this point! I look forward to more whenever it should present itself.
I think I got something in my eye.
These last few pages have been some of your best work.
TINY LEGGIES. And they’re so smartly dressed, the pair of them. The characters, not the legs.
GO GLENN AND LOTTIE AND CLAIRE. Yes, of course we want more Solver!!
Threepio, Artoo, Luke and Leia watch from the viewport of the med bay as the Millennium Falcon speeds off into the slowly spinning galaxy. Leia and Han’s theme swells as we reverse angle, now outside the rebel flagship. We pull back through the receding rebel fleet and wipe to CREDITS.
If it’s not like Mordawwa, then it must, ipso facto, be the long-awaited return of Our Lord and Saviour, Robert Cop!!!
And a moment of appreciation for the rendering of that rain. It got more humid in here the moment I loaded this page. (Also, ancillary moment of appreciation for Claire’s Mary Poppins umbrella handle.)
Claire is so cute. Hopefully the murderous rage will remain buried. Right now it’s unbearable sadness. Fingers crossed Lottie is already in there.
Yeah I came here to say that. The first and last panels are beautifully grim.
Perhaps Lottie is already there, taking tea and biscuits with the Dowager.
Also, there was never a truer friend than Claire. She’s a giant, a very little giant.
And then, she realised Lottie was gone, forever… poor Claire and poor Lottie. Beautiful page, sad and raining. Relly a Great Story.
Indeed, one of the most beautiful and somber endings I’ve seen in the Bobbinsverse. Though if Lottie’s gone it’s only for a while. She and Claire’s paths will eventually intersect again.
I only just noticed the rainwater puddle “FIN” at the bottom on my *third* straight heartbreaking readthrough. Bravo.
You never fail to move people with your art & storytelling John, it’s a devilishly rare talent, one I’m presuming was acquired at a crossroads with a stringed instrument of some description.
However if this gaggle does not appear in a Redux as you say I will have to try summon your *true* patron to force the issue.
In the meantime I’m going to go sit alone with a cup of tea and my heartbreak for a time.
I add to the public acclamation for the return of “Solver”!
After so many years of watching Lottie be Lottie as only she can, of course I want to see what happens next! And I’m also left wondering about what happens next with Claire and Glump. And who is this dowager? Well, maybe not as much that – unless of course the dowager turns out to be Chibi Lottie. But your sneaky but good character development has definitely drawn me in here!
Is it just me or is Claire’s phone growing? You could use that thing as a saucepan lid.
More Solver please please please!
There’s a face in those bushes. Also – that big old house looming in the rain! So ominous and spookily drawn!
Poor Charlotte! I hope she shows up and this is just one of her classic dramatic entrances, as Claire says. Obviously we want more Solver!
I must have MOAR of the chunky, crispy goodness that is Solver!
you do an excellent job and grey dreary rain. Not easy to artistically render. Well done!
Ready for a Redux. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please?
“…let me know when you’re ready for a redux.”
I feel like the true answer of “immediately” would not be productive, so I’ll just say “at your earliest convenience, please”.
Crushed.
Also, READY NOW PLEASE.
Desolated! Please, please, please, redux a.s.a.p.
Well you can’t just leave us out here in the rain, Waiting For Lottie! Get writing/drawing as you soon as you can!
Finally, it’s X-Men time! Wait… I want more SOLVER! But… X-Men. We need to bring the John Allison from EARTH-295 here so we can get both
Personally I’m still waiting for a resolution to the whole “Erin and Eustace are trapped in a neighbourhood purgatory” thing
They escaped, with Mad Terry’s help, into the back of the supermarket. Erin got a job as editor of the Wendlefield Packet, and parleyed that into taking over the Tackleford Cormorant at the end of “The Case of the Severed Alliance”. I’m not real sure what The Boy’s doing with his second life, but he grew a circle beard and has started going by “Jacxon”, which I’m not convinced is an improvement over “Eustace”. Erin and “Jacxon” were both there for Peggy’s baby shower at the end of “Hard Yards”.
have loved these characters and this story and love this charged, melancholy and ambiguous ending :’) will be very glad to read more about them if you ever make it but i’m happy with what we got, so thank you! looking forward to what’s next!
I am doing a sad face.
Also I am reading this on a small phone screen and initially thought the sign.in the final panel said bollocks for sale, which would certainly be an unusual business
Claire and Glenn do seem to get on well, at least. Glenn seems oblivious to her obvious charms, however.
She just needs to pay Jack’s dad another visit.
Great stuff
I”m excited for Kit + the Wolf, and looking forward to getting back to Tredregyn, but you have to do more Solver. You can’t just leave Claire hanging forever.
Presumably Bendicks prefer property in mint condition?
You aren’t seriously thinking of leaving us out in the rain, are you? Waiting breathlessly to see whether Lottie’s broken heart allows her to carry on? 🙁 I love everything you’ve done to date and am looking forward to more of whatever you choose to offer, but please do carry on with Solver if you can!
