He has hidden depths
Both Shelley Winters and Esther de Groot occasionally fell for himbos. I don’t think either of those women walked the length of the counter when making most of their romantic selections. We’ll have to trust that Lottie is a better judge of character.
Maybe Nero will be a heartbreaker, maybe not. Fortunately, Lottie has a surfeit of them.
Surely he will be an experience and Lottie needs that.
A surfeit of what?? Hearts??? (Kudos on the use of “surfeit”, btw.)
Yes. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
and, of course, the count (14) is correct 🙂
plethora is good too.
Oooo! I like a good “plethora”!
A sesquiplethora is 50% better.
Claire is being pretty unreasonable
business and romance… they don’t go well together. But, boys DO like fun. . .
I mean, Lottie did start a business with someone and then left that business partner in the lurch! That is a genuine grievance that needs a resolution. But it is fair to say that Claire has that entirely conflated with her personal feelings about Lottie’s life.
I want to disagree with you because I love Claire, but also, yeah! Let Lottie enjoy her FIRST romantic dalliance, Claire, sheesh! You had Colm, and Charlotte was very supportive! Let Charlotte have hers. (If Claire had other boyfriends I do not recall.)
There was Linton, sort of, briefly.
Claire’s only human. All of us are sometimes unreasonable, no matter how much some of us may try otherwise.
Claire could definitely be a better friend here. This is a big event for Lottie.
Lottie with heart eyes has a sort of snake like quality to her. Does not bode well imo.
There’s a reason they call it being “swept off your feet”. Gravity loses its’ grip on you. Your neurons fire in new, complicated ways. You have to wear extra thick socks. What mind can compete?
Gen 1 – Shelley, Tim, Ryan
Gen 2 – Esther, Susan, Daisy
Gen 3 – Charlotte, Claire, Mildred
Gen 4 – TBD
I wonder who’s next in line to get their own comics series
I shudder to think what’s become of the Jack / Linton / Sonny half of Gen 3. And Shauna probably deserves her own spinoff.
There’s great news for you
I think that if Mildred will have her spin-off, probably Linton, Sonny and Jack would be in it. I would love to see the boys (and Mildred and Linton) together again.
I know. It feels silly to admit this, but I really do miss them.
Mildred’s spin-off was pitched but did not happen. It was quite high concept and might have proved infuriating to write, so in a way, I’m glad. The problem with the boys is that I don’t really know what they’re up to now. When I stop hearing characters’ voices, it’s pretty much over for them.
I’m going to retain some hope that we’ll someday see them again, though. I recall you saying something very similar about Shauna at some point.
It is often the case that after several years, I get a feeling to write about a character again. Something new occurs to me!
Whaaat, a high concept Mildred spin off? Make it happen!!!!!
That was my reaction, too.
Yeah. Mildred and Jack would make a great team. It would be like Moonlighting with Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd or The X Files with Mulder and Scully.
Like the X-Files if Mulder’s thing was music instead of aliens and Scully was a dangerous nutter.
Almost like that. But Mildred would be the cool, logical, science student and also red hot dangerous nutter. And Jack would be the free thinking but ultra cautious guitar playing musician and babe magnet. And they’d bicker all the time but secretly we’d know that they were made for each other. Yep, it’s definitely got legs.
That is Amy erasure!
I think Gen 4 has to be Shauna’s little brother, Sonny’s little sister and I’m not sure who else.
Gen 5 is Peggy (Shelley & Tim’s daughter), Walt (Ryan and Amy’s son), not sure who else.
The Wen-Tack Action Group! Speaking of characters I’m sad we lost track of.
I was thinking of them, as well, but it occurred to me that the age difference between them and the listed “Gen 3” characters probably isn’t great enough to fit the pattern. I still like to imagine that they’ve become the new Tackleford Mystery Kids, though.
There’s a possibility that Peggy will move to Tredregyn if things between Shelley and Rev Penrose will go well. Maybe she will found the Gen 1 of Tredregyn?
Was Shelley’s himbo a worse choice than Tim?
That was my thought as well: Lottie’s foremost lady mentor has been Shelley, who doesn’t have the best track resisting himbos and an arguably worse one with non-himbos.
He was pretty much an animal.
I can’t remember his name – but I remember liking him!
Bruno. According to John’s notes in the Bobbins 2016 collection, he originated in original Bobbins as a parody of the sort of man that a girl you like likes more than you, but was recreated in the later strips as simply an unreconstructed blue-collar guy with genuine feelings for Shelley, who had unfortunately outgrown him.
So people’s opinions of him may depend on which version they remember. But there was rather a lot of testosterone there.
Absolutely adorable Lottie ♡. I wonder what is that intriguing business she found. Nice to see how Claire believes in her. Let’s hope Nero is really a good guy.
I think that if Mildred will have her spin-off, probably Linton, Sonny and Jack would be in it. I would love to see the boys (and Mildred and Linton) together again.
He does, does he? Well I have hidden heights.
Are they in the heels of your shoes?
Ah, I shouldn’t have doubted Lottie’s commitment to mystery despite getting wisped away by some random himbo.
You might want to wait until you know what that business is first.
I mean, was there a bigger Himbo than Tim? Maybe Ryan, but that worked out well for Amy, at least.
Lottie’s smile in the last panel makes me happy. 🙂
Charlotte was always the Bad Machinery character who was least interested in romance and relationships (brief interest in Tuan notwithstanding), so this story feels so strange and unusual… in a good way.
She’s inexperienced! It’s a danger.
When Lottie threw that letter in the trash without opening it, that was a true bad ass move that I admired. *Influential.*
She was in a long-term relationship with Mystery.
You can still buy the t-shirt! https://topatoco.com/collections/scary-go-round/products/sgr-mysteryboyfriend
But when her sister got together with the young doctor, Lottie liked him very much and when she thought of him she was surrounded by little hearts like here in the first panel. Also there were times, I think when Linton had a crush on Claire, where she seemed sad about his unrequited love. Maybe she liked Linton a little.
Thank you for reminding me the phrase “walked the length of the counter”. You have enriched my day.
