In my childhood, the railway line from the village where I lived into Leicester ran past the Friary Lane Old Boys’ football ground, whose modest stands had corrugated iron roofing with “F.L.O.B.” painted proud and bold upon them.
I believe they’ve renamed the club since then. Which is a shame.
It was a great time/place, there was always a friendly taxi driver around to protect you from “All the animals [that] come out at night.” OK, Travis had some issues, but his heart was in the right place. “She appeared like an angel. Out of this filthy mess, she is alone. They… cannot… touch… her.”
Another flashback to the night I spent in a “hostel” (this was wayyyy before air bnb) which turned out to be a college residence during summer break. On Prince Edward Island. P.E.I. to those in the know.
Shout-out to Night Raven, the bizarre Shadow-like vigilante from the pre-Death’s Head era of Marvel UK! I expect the next few pages to be dialogue-light sequences of Lottie beating up gangsters in alleyways.
A great poster for a great film.
Also: does ironing clothes make a lot of noise, or might the powers that be have detected Lottie via a great cloud of steam?
Guessing Claire doesn’t have an ironing board in her room, so Lottie was using a communal laundry room for her ironing.
Ironing anything you don’t need for a formal dinner is a pretty sure sign that you’re not a real student.
My feeling was, she was ironing out of total boredom in some sort of communal zone.
“Flob”
How onomatopoetic of you.
There have been many flobs over the years in my comics

I’m starting to suspect that Lottie doesn’t have as much of a plan for what to do next as she led us to believe.
Hmm. Breasts and Eggs, by Mieko Kawakami. Claire’s assigned sociology reading, or pleasure reading for one of the girls?
I don’t think plans are really a Lottie thing. Lottie usually operates best in the moment and when she can improvise.
This book looks good! Just checked it out from the library.
I hypothesize that Breasts and Eggs has something to do with the role of the common chicken in the human diet, at either end of its life cycle.
I am digging Claire’s Velma look.
She’s all dressed up for mysterying, but Lottie’s gone and left her home alone.
Oh no! Lottie has gone mad and Claire is forced to become a worried mother too quickly and too suddenly!
It’s ok the purple puffer will keep her safe.
I think Claire should be glad for Lottie’s sake that Sheffield isn’t in fact 1970s New York.

Why, I grew up around that time, and it’s as safe as Camp Crystal Lake.
Having grown up in ’70s New York, specifically, I’d have to agree. (It’s really weird what you find yourself nostalgic for…)
Maybe she meant some other part of New York state. I’m sure 1970s Oneida was… fine?

The term “night raven” reminds me of Lottie’s “Energy Crow” book character.

Energy Crow made an appearance in the last panel of the previous page.
What shoes is night-Lottie wearing in that panel? At first I thought Nike AF1, but that’s not right.
Disregard. She’s got them on in the page where she’s saying goodbye to the roastery and they don’t look interesting enough to care about.
I just realized Lottie’s had a different outfit every page of this story so far.

I’m not sure which is less likely… Lottie beating someone up, or Lottie being dialogue-light.
