Japanese digital perm money
Some familiar faces lurking around the fringes of today’s comic! Could they be involved in this mystery???!!!!!
No.

No.
I once crossed paths with a woman walking a cat while I was walking my dog. We both paused, she, with the merest hint of embarrassment, picked up her cat, which then attempted to murder her brutally for the sheer effrontery of it. We beat a hasty retreat as she began to quietly swear at it as they crossed the road.
It’s Magus Tom Pendulous!
(He probably only wishes he were called that.)
Also, Shelley’s agent. š
Ah, THAT’S who that is….when I read this initially in the Patreon preview I couldn’t place him but knew the face, so thanks for setting my mind at ease!
No, Barry’s a much more impressive character than that, that’s just a poorly rendered local schlub.
Mind uneased and then eased once more
Everything is To Let in my burg. Or burnt down.
Is that… Mad Terry?
Lotties face in the final panel.āI have missed you every moment we were apartā BIG MOOD lottie I love seeing Mildred just fuck it right up for everyone
Mad Terry walking Garfield?
Sort of older Hugo serving coffee and 50-year-old Maggie drinking same?
Sighā”. Mildred is a beautiful evil genius and a wonderful friendā”ā”ā”. That permanent will be glorious! Interesting people is walking around. Nice to know Mad Terry has survived. Seriously, HOORAY!!!!
I wonder what Tom’s doing in Tackleford. Come to think of it, I don’t think I want to know.
IIRC, Tackleford’s second-largest employer is the skull-top walking stick manufacturing sector.
Well, Tacklefordās got quite a rep for supernatural doings. Almost as notorious as Tredregyn Parishās. Iām thinking he may be seeking out Mother Shipton.
Ley lines. It’s always ley lines. He’s listening to that dowsing app – the one that pings like sonar.
Looks like Ms. Terry didn’t kill her son after all!
We love her because we know it’s not for lack of trying!
Is that Desmond Fishman in the paper? Or maybe a fishwoman? It sort of looks like he/she is wearing a tiara. Iām having fun imagining a fish person beauty pageant.
It’s a Shrek wedding. See earlier in the week.
So, my speculation earlier in the week that a “Japanese digital perm” is just a hologram turns out to be wrong, but I still think my idea has validity and is more interesting than simply “a perm that uses hot rods with the temperature regulated by a machine with a digital display.”
Drat. I was going to avoid looking up what a Japanese digital perm might be, to savor the mystery, but forgot that there might be spoilers in the comments.
The mental image I was clinging to until dispossessed of it involves “digital” being about fingers (digits): the yakuza, after removing their rivals’ digits, supply them to beauty parlors. It makes about as much sense as anything else strictly Japanese makes sense! I’m just not sure the Ā£250 pricetag would be sufficient for an authentic experience in this imagined variant.
Ah – I see that Tom is *truly* evil, as he walks down the street with his call ON SPEAKERPHONE!
At least that’s why I figure the phone is at an unusual angle.
Every time you see the guy you want to punch him. It’s obligatory. At first I thought he might be listening to loud music on his cellphone like that, but I think your idea is more likely.
Wasn’t there a running gag about people holding their phones like that in one of these comics at some point?
Yes, John loves drawing unconventional cellphone users.
Maybe it just looks that way because Lottie is rather short in comparison, but it seems that Mildred has become REALLY TALL!
You could probably figure it out from panel 1, if you know how tall shop doors in Britain tend to be (which I don’t).
I assume that all shop doors in Britain are at most 5 feet tall because all the shops were first built in 1587 when everyone was four feet tall
Like walking through my old hometown during my 45th high school reunion. Who ARE these people and why do they seem so familiar?
Who’s in the fluffy purple thing and the leggings in panel one, that’s what I want to know.
That’s what you call “a supernumerary.”
It is of course Janice Plew of the Copper Edge Plews.
Thanks. Checking Scarygoround character’s lives on the world wide web was sort of an important ritual for me for a long time. V comfy, so thank you.
From the Steeple FAQ:
Q. “Is Steeple part of the Scary Go Round/Bobbins/Giant Days universe?”
A. “It is, in the sense that you are part of actor Willem Dafoeās extended universe. The chances of your experiencing a ācrossoverā with Willem Dafoe are fleetingly small.”
Yet here’s Tom. Crossed over. Just a little. š
OH NO IT’S A HORRIBLE COFFEE BARROW
this is england alright
