Poor Claire, Dream Glym so within reach and now so far away. So how long before Claire blows a gasket and berates The Nuisance in public and possibly finds out that the now heartbroken Nuisance is recently widowed and lonely and considered Claire her only friend, and in effect alienating Dream Glym forever?
I can see Dream Glym stare at Claire disgusted and walk away from her while the other people in the bus attempt to comfort the woman from the nasty comments of that evil girl.
We can all be grateful that Claire is not Emma. The last time I tried watching an adaptation of Emma the actress playing the part was so good at it that I couldn’t stand to be in the same room with her. Not even to the end of the first episode!
Russell seems to have bad manners, a gambling problem and currently is breaking his mother’s heart. Maybe that poor, annoying woman has no friends and needs therapy but can’t afford it.
She is perfectly well mannered, she is just an absolute nuisance. It’s adaptive pressure – the only nuisances that can remain are those with perfect manners, since no one less extraverted than they feels right to rebuke them.
Extravert tip: start aggressively talking on an esoteric subject until the nuisance leaves. The more socially unacceptable the better — there are plent of them nowadays!
Introvert tip: don’t take a seat until the nuisance does, then find a different seat to simply remain standing (and strike up a conversation with Dream Glam).
That’s like when you get a spam phone call, you tell them, “I am happy to listen to your pitch. But first, let me tell you about my personal relationship with God.”
“Jack the lad”! That was one of the ‘find the source’ questions in the OED’s asks a few years ago, and I am proud to have been one of the many people who submitted the screenplay to Performance as the earliest known reference.
I like that she do her “s” sounds properly in her mind.
She pronounces them properly most of the time, she only lisps when she’s properly frustrated or distracted enough to stop concentrating on her speech.
It’s not her fault she was raised this way! Team Nuisance. She’ll learn and grow as a person.
Also, I didn’t know “man who looks like Nlyg’s cousin” was a real person.
Me neither, I totally thought he was in Claire’s head until now.
As relatable as Ms. N may be, Claire will always wonder if this was a lost opportunity at love.
just barf in her lap. it works every time.
I find I’m genuinely curious what led you to be so confident about that conclusion, and yet I don’t want any details whatsoever.
Of course, maybe Claire’s “sympathetic ear” might encourage Dream Boy to check her out some other time!
It was so close! Poor Claire, she needs to be strong. The nuisance seem needs her!
Oh my gosh. I AM that Nuisance Woman. Blush. Cringe.
oh man, you can never get the nice guy, can you? He’s too nice.

Doubly bad since it seems like she knows Glym. She needs to listen.
Claire Little is not Emma Woodhouse.

New future prediction; Claire loses Dream Glym but later meets Russell and bond over how annoying his mom is.
Russel does not sound like a catch.
Russell seems to have bad manners, a gambling problem and currently is breaking his mother’s heart. Maybe that poor, annoying woman has no friends and needs therapy but can’t afford it.
“Mum, for the last time, Sudoku isn’t a gambling app.”
Good points all, and knowing Claire she’s not a fan of bad habits.
Are you sure “my Russell” isn’t short for her Jack Russell Terrier?
Sgt Pepper era John Lennon in the row behind?
I was thinking more Bus Gremlin.
I was thinking of Nuisance as being the Gremlin.
I’m also interested in the rooster on the other side of the bus.
I am loving the Claire faces on this page. Especially the final panel.
The lady is well mannered, notice how she thanks DG with well chosen words and includes self-criticism

That’s like when you get a spam phone call, you tell them, “I am happy to listen to your pitch. But first, let me tell you about my personal relationship with God.”
But first, make absolutely sure that was not actually what they intended to talk about.
Oh, that’s no problem. Just make your god is different from theirs.
Let’s just hope that this won’t cause Claire to relapse back to the arsonist habits of her childhood…
Burn the bi’s Claire, BURN THE BUS!!!
Total c*ck block!!! Not cool, Nuisance, not cool!
(John Allison, congratulations on somehow fostering a comments space which feels so wholesome I self-censored the word C*CK.) No small feat.
We’ve been ever so good since John came down moderately hard on us following the sp*nk m*g incident of 2021.
I don’t remember that. Perhaps I blocked it out.
You know, Claire, the Nuisance seems like she’s got some problems that need to be Solved…
The coloring on these panels is top-notch.
I find myself wondering if Dream-Glym is carrying a UNICEF tote in real life.
