I suddenly feel that Charlotte is destined to be one of those people who end up marrying a ‘misunderstood’ cannibal serial killer on death row in Texas and selling their story to Take a Break.
It’s a small step from this kind of white boy K-pop Svengali nonsense.
Well, yes. Which boys are those, and what kind of fun? John being John, the obvious answers are off the table, if not yet smashed in bits on the floor.
Spectacular page of growing tension between the group because of Lottie’s fever dream. I just wonder one thing. IF Nero’s group is really good and IF they become a worldwide success, would Lottie be willing to share her boyfriend with the rest of the world for years?
I’m torn. If anyone could make a success of this group, it’s Lottie. And yet, if she weren’t in love with Nero, I can’t help but think she would solve it by showing them that it’s won’t work.
Judging from my long experience following the visual logic of superhero comics, I’m pretty sure Glenn is developing telepathy. Given the amount of pain he seems to be experience, it looks like he’s going to be an exceptionally powerful telepath, too.
Based on panel 6, I suspect Lottie may have acquired super speed, as well.
Oddly, this page may be the only page so far in this story that DOESN’T imply that Claire has any sort of superhuman abilities. Previous pages have indicated the obvious fire generation, astral projection, and the ability to make words appear out of nowhere. I may have missed a few.
There’s something elusive and marvellous going on with these nine frames — the formality of the poses, the way the backgrounds comment on the dialogue, the isolation of each character from the others (except that one panel with Lottie’s Ugg standing in for the rest of her) — and I’m going to be thinking about it for quite a while.
Oh poor Glenn.
A fury is in his brain.
All the action line variants and the ugg pose remind me of Wally Wood’s 22 panels that always work – am I missing a reference to some drawing manual?
On the other hand, a band from new zealand released an album called Fever Dream last year so…no connection is off the table.
Getting some Mrs. Robinson / The Graduate vibes here.
Glenn should maybe plan … for his escape
This page is…dynamic!

9 whole panels today, you’re spoiling us John.
“No label! No middle men! We’re in full creative control!”
My god. They’re all going to die, aren’t they?
Claire will survive to tell everyone their story.
“Call me Clairemael!”
Creative differences.
Charlotte wants creative lust with Boy.
Glerb wants a creative break from poverty.
Could be a split of solving-ing.
Given that this is only part 1 of “Boys Like Fun”, I somehow suspect this isn’t going to be resolved in the next few pages.

Lottie. What are you doing.
Lottie.
The different backgrounds set the emotion nicely.
I’m torn. If anyone could make a success of this group, it’s Lottie. And yet, if she weren’t in love with Nero, I can’t help but think she would solve it by showing them that it’s won’t work.
Well as brilliant as Lottie is, it looks like her inability to differentiate a good plan from a bad plan has resurfaced to a horrifying degree.
So does Dean fit into all this? And if so how?
He plays the euphonium, which is definitely required for K-pop.
Nero’s their fiddler.
Claire’s going to handle the burning part.
Don’t you need a doctor to handle the burning part?
On the one hand, thinking that Dean could be involved worries me. On the other hand, it’s an opportunity to see how much has changed.
Dean has a part to play in part 2, fear not
WHOT
Been there, on Glenn’s side, sort of.
John would likely create a happy ending, but it would take some serious unicorn power, haha.
People DIE of exposure, Lottie!
I think Lottie is still stuck on the full-tongue pash exposure Glossa and Claire just experienced.
She has puffer jackets! She’s prepared!
Oh no.
The arrival of the nine panel style seems…. Ominous.
This isn’t magic. This is formalism.
Reference acknowledged.
Once someone takes the Captain Morgan pose, they are fully committed to their actions.
Of course, while they are striking the pose, they don’t notice they are headed right for the rocks.
The backgrounds are so amazing. Thank you
I love the superhero action poses on this page so much.
tbf, almost everything hailing from Tackleford is the plot of a fever dream
Oh Glenn, you figured you could relax and play minigolf for just a moment.
Is that a Sex in the City reference in panel 8?!?
Or The Graduate?
That’s it. A dim and distant memory got sidetracked by Kim Cattrall.
Glenn appears to be feeling a bit down in panel 7.
My take on the last panel is that it’s a different part of Charlotte’s body doing the talking now (perhaps the start of a monologue?)
You’d be trusting in luck taking on something like that without having heard and seen the band first.

Superspeed, out of nowhere she grabs that game as a form of conciliatory distraction.
Good point! Claire’s clearly using super speed on the previous page.
big plan reveal: no big plan
many of us have been here!
I refuse to believe Lottie is this stupid. She’s got something up her sleeve, I just know it. HAVE FAITH IN LOTTIE.
Even smart people can be incredibly stupid sometimes.
As allegedly smart person, can confirm. (Barring escape from allegations at trial.)
IQ, I always used to say, is just a measure of how truly stupid you can be when you really put your mind to it
George Orwell said “Some ideas are so stupid that only an intellectual would believe them”
She’s an 18/19 year old who’s having her first massive crush and doesn’t have the experience to handle it. Her rationality is currently on vacation.
What if – and hear me out – what if Nero’s band is actually good?
It’s a possibility. But what is Lottie will start feeling looney because the band will force Nero to be always on the road?
I’m not sure Nero’s band being good would change the fact that this seems like an incredibly bad idea.
I’m sure if Nero’s band is good there the middlemen will appear, offering contracts, whether Lottie likes it or not.
In that case, they’ll need experienced, cool-headed management.
this reads like the plot of a manga.
DING DING
It’s a K-Pop group, so it should probably be the plot of a manhwa instead.
