Parfait!
What a beautiful kimono. That’s Dean Thompson style, then and now. Lottie is far too young for the X-Files, but this fascination will be explored in the next Solver story.

Poor Glom, he had avoided approach anxiety by *focusing on the Algorithm*.
Be strong, lad!
He has an “I want to believe” poster on his wall, AND he compulsively sculpts his butter to look like Devils Tower. Coincidence?
No way! Throw in the comparison to one of the stars of Astro Zombies and the dots almost connect themselves. By the way the trailer for that film is priceless.
I had to look up the name, but recognized her from the pictures. Yeah, it fits. But, it doesn’t quite roll off the tongue like Chibbi Vampirella.
I like how Lottie is still smiling after being called a “Kids Bop Tura Satana” (arguably a much worse insult than “Chibi Vampirella”), because this time she has a PLAN, and being insulted by a socially abrasive problem magnet is perfectly consistent with that plan.
Being compared in any way to Tura Satana is a magnificent moment
Tura Satana is amazing, how could you. I have only discovered her in this moment and already she is my spirit animal.
Agreed. I was referring more to the “Kid’s Bop” part.
I really struggled with this line because all I could think of was “Minipops”, a programme shown when I was 7 or 8 where they’d dress youngsters up as pop stars singing the hits of the day.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minipops
“it couldn’t happen now” &c.
As a resident of the US, I instantly recognized “Kids Bop”, but I have no idea how well known it would be to people in the UK. In this age of “Internet as brain extension” I don’t suppose it matters much. It only takes a few seconds longer to Google something than it takes to remember it. (I admit I had to Google “Minipops” just now, and my takeaway was “Oh. It’s a British version of Kid’s Bop”) It kind of fits Dean Thompson’s personality that he would choose the one fewer people had heard of anyway.
Yes, I don’t think being likened to Tura Satana is a burn
I must confess that Ms. Satana isn’t the most obvious frame of reference when I think of Lottie, but Dean’s always been one to go for the obscure pick.
Same here Jeff, and I must admit I was quite surprised. I realized Lottie has grown, but that is QUITE the reference from Mr DT.
The fish are real! And sadly have even less chance than Perkin of escaping into the wild.
Now I’m wondering if DT would actually polish a cat.
Dean’s beautiful kimono pattern is one of his best kept secrets. Mum’s the word.
It’s fun watching Lottie fully in her element. However, if there isn’t a full, no holds barred four-way battle between Dean Thompson, a giant sloth, a living carpet, and an automated one-man band before this story is over, I for one will be very disappointed.
Ah, Ygln. Your Life With Algorithms did not prepare you for Life With Lottie!
One of the most amazing strips you’ve ever done (perhaps barring some of the wild graphic in “Destroying History”, but “that wasn’t real”…)
I mean my back-pocket theory is that Lottie’s ace, and maybe this is the conspiracy brain speaking but she HAS been wearing the ace flag colors for some time now. Either way, seeing DT in the wild in another storyline is grand
It’s possible. She hasn’t seemed pleased with her lack of romance, though she could eventually embrace it.
Lottie’s looks so satisfied to see how much DT is… different. I’m afraid she’s underestimate the possibility that deal with Dean could be more difficult than they thought.
Or maybe Dean is underestimating the possibility that dealing with Lottie could be more difficult than he thought. He wouldn’t be the first.
I should’ve never underestimated Lottie’s ability to detect misanthropes and ne’er-do-wells.
Lottie and Glenn definitely haven’t discussed *that*. That’s the job of the comments section.
Big question though is are Lottie and Glym more grand alien conspiracy plot or more “monster of the week?”
At least the food isn’t all initialed CSM
When I see an expression like Lottie has in panel 4 I usually run away and save myself the trouble. Also Dean’s kimono blends into the wall: is this accidental or did he plan for that kind of a illusionary camouflage?
Can someone kindly point me to a Dean Thompson story so’s I can refresh my memory as to why he is so generally hated? I remember the gist but not the *instances*.
I’ve replied, but the answer is under your comment as another comment.
Giant Days, issue 17 and 18. He involved Esther and Ed in a scam. GD 20, he destroyed Ed’s coffee machine. GD 23, we saw how much he was able to trashing the apparent he, Ed and McGraw shared. GD 26, he’s the worst with everyone but Esther save him for a very unhappy marriage. Jet, he will hate her for that since the end of the series. There’s other, bit this should be enough.
OHHH, yes yes yes, I remember now!!! Thanks! Oh wow this is INTERESTING.
Okay, *scribbles furiously*, X-Files… crossed with… Seinfeld. Got it. The only thing they can’t solve is their own feelings.
So there is hormonal undercurrents going on after all!
I may be wrong, of course, but to me the fact that Lottie would say that under these circumstances seems like the strongest piece of evidence we’ve gotten that she feels no physical attraction towards Glenn at all.
Faster, Lottie Grote! Kill! Kill!
Faster, Chibivamp! Kill! Kill!
Solve! Solve!
Lottie is a tall dwarf
And that’s not given lightly
One hardly needs to come up with pop culture references to describe Lottie, when there is literally a line of dolls right now with her likeness. She even has the URL (lottie.com). I almost fell over the first time I saw one in a toy store.
That’s quite the find.
Screenshotting panel 4 to use in the replies of various Internet arguments/pile-ons; feel free to produce a hi-res version with your URL if you’d like everyone to use that instead.
