SKRAAAAAAA
Here it is, “Boys Like Fun” part 2, it really doesn’t seem so long since we were enjoying part one together, does it? You didn’t expect it to start with Flukeman, did you? So many questions! See, I can still surprise you.
My Patreon subscribers in all but the lowest tier can read the whole of this story (and many more) in a higher-res PDF format right now.
The X-Files never have answers, Glenn. Only questions.
The truth is out there, not here.
Wow. Your take on Flukeman looks like an entirely different style than your usual work. Deeply disturbing. I may have trouble sleeping tonight.
When I had seen the page title “SKRAAAAAAA” in the sidebar, I had secretly hoped that we’d be seeing the tully monster that showed up in Cornwall a while ago. Alas, I will make do with this.
Also, I don’t know if, in the last panel, Gorse is pleased by Claire’s idea that the truth is inside him, or if he’s just mildly thrilled by her touch.
Why not both?
Claire is opening up the XY Files.
Oooooh! Claire has given Ygln the Pillsbury Doughboy Heart Test!
Hee hee!
XXX
It just hit me that if you combine Claire’s and Glenn’s first initials, you get Lottie’s initials (C + G = CG)! Which has got to mean… absolutely nothing.
Throw in Mildred and you’ve got her middle initial, too.
Throw in Flukeman and you’ve got… nothing actually, I just wanted to throw in Flukeman…
And Des! I’m throwing in Des just because I think this post needs another fish man.
It occurs to me that the X-Files never resolved Flukeman’s story arc. COULD DES BE THE FLUKEMAN!? COULD SEASON 2 EPISODE 2 OF THE X-FILES “HOST” BE DESMOND FISHMAN’S SUPER SECRET ORIGIN STORY!?
(I think it would be about his third one)
“Center of Gravity” Extremely important in flying things.
Also surprisingly important to things that don’t fly. What these things do is what we physicists¹ call “Falling.”
¹ I am not actually a physicist.
Also important in driving, cycling, walking, and putting things down on the edge of tables.
And if you throw in Charlotte in there, you get CCG!
Which is still complete gibberish, I’m afraid.
“Collectible Card Game” I think.
And if you throw in another 10 million carefully selected people, you get the collected works of Shakespeare.
Bittersweet X-Files reference on the day Richard Belzer dies.
Round up the unusual suspects
Who knew little Claire would grow up to be a hottie. Glerb, I hate to tell you this but you’re out of your league.
In a certain sense she was a hottie when she was younger, too. Or caused things around her to be hot, anyway.
Colm and Linton, at least.
And somebody named Barnes?
:cues Blue Öyster Cult’s “Burnin’ For You”:
I was thinking Phil Manzanera’s 801 and “Baby’s on Fire!”
But then, that was my record collection…
I really like a lot the chemistry between Claire and Glenn. The way them react to horror scene is so totally different to be hilarious but still so true.
What an unusual way to start the comic!
Although I’m sure it’s just a fluke.
*slow clap*
It’s sure to be a whale of a tale.
I was a kid when X Files were first on the air. I think I wasn’t allowed to watch it. I’ve never gotten around to it. Maybe it’s finally time cause I’m tired of missing all the jokes.
For most of its original run, I didn’t have a TV, and couldn’t get the channel it was on anyway, so I only caught an episode or two here and there. I’ve lately been watching through it on Hulu, and following along with Shaenon Garrity’s excellent Monster of the Week. I’d been doing that a while back, but got distracted by other things, and picked it back up because of Lottie pushing it on Glavin a couple stories back.
Though I’ve lately been distracted again by binge-watching Buffy, which is another of the nerd canon that I didn’t/couldn’t watch when it first aired, because it came up on Hulu’s expiring list.
(As a side effect of this, Hulu’s ad algorithm has apparently decided that I’m either a girl or gay (but not both), because all the dating service ads have gone from the ones with sultry bikini-clad lasses purring about how they just want to have some fun to the ones with poorly-shaven square-jawed guys talking earnestly about their desire to find a meaningful relationship.)
I’m honestly expecting my gut reaction expectations to be subverted or denied.
My gut says “Give it a week or two guys, Something will go wrong and Lottie will come crawling back, but Claire and Glenn will have none of it but ultimately accept her back.”
I’m honestly wondering if we’ll instead get, “They succeed but something goes wrong between them… or lottie gets bored and comes back.”
Either way I actually kind of like Nero for some unexplained reason and want him to stick around in some capacity. Maybe the idiot fourth member of the Solvers.
Yeah, I kind of like Nero too but I can’t figure out why.
Maybe it’s a sense that’s he’s probably unjustly presumed to be a jerk cuz he’s pretty?
So the answer they’re looking for in the X-Files will give them the solution to the problem… of Lottie herself?
The X-Files might be a little too far advanced for Grep when he’s still working at ABC.
