SOLVER: GREEN DOOR starts Monday!
Here’s a cover to conjure with. Good luck interpreting this one. I’m sure you’ll have worked it out by Monday – see you then.

Cyborg Don Partridge?
The anteater and the musical cyborg are siblings, and they have issues.
Ah! A Jurassic Park style tale in which Lottie and Glemm resurrect a giant ground sloth who’s savage breast can only be soothed by music!
I think the animal on the left is a tamandua, which is a type of anteater. I could see John including one somewhere just so he can use the word “tamandua”.
Dunno. tamanduás have a very distinct long, dark snout.
Both the length and darkness of the tamandua’s snout seem pretty variable. And the claws and tongue say ‘anteater” more than anything else. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2a/Tamandua_tetradactyla_%28cropped%29.jpg
You’re so sure of yourselves! It’s a giant sloth, straight from the megafauna planet.
I stand corrected!
Possibly confirming my guess that Ms Grote will soon be Destroying History with Shelley.
It is a crying shame that these went extinct. We here in the American south have an invasive species known as kudzu, and we very much need a similar critter to solve the issue. Perhaps I am biased since I have seen this dozens of times on my way into the science library: https://www5.galib.uga.edu/science/southpawsloth.html
This is one of two species that need re-introduction. The other is a Cretan (or other island) mini-mammoth or elephant, because a guide animal with a trunk would be awesome.
Regardless, this is an amazing tease.
“Tamandua” is a bit like “Torquemada” and the musical fellow looks a lot like Nemesis the Warlock, so clearly we’re in for another classic comic crossover!
I got distracted by the xenarthran beast. I meant to comment on how Barry Windsor Smith-esque this cover is.
And in the background, a malevolent green-spirit mastermind. The Moriarty to Lottie’s Holmes
Obviously this is our Solver trio: Chibi Vampirella, the back office robot with a computer for a brain (and unexpected musical talent), and… well, I wouldn’t have guessed that Little Claire was secretly a giant sloth, but I guess you can never really know someone’s inner heart and/or fursona.
It makes sense to me! Seems in character. Yes.
The March of the Calliopetron!
And coffee! The SuperSloth’s one weakness!
The March of the Calliopetron!
I was thinking The Music Man, but Calliopetron works, too.
I think we need to get a poll going as to whether it is an anteater or a three toed sloth on the cover.
It is neither. It is a Megatherium.
Spectacular cover, as always ♡
Green door, what’s that secret you’re keeping?
Don’t know what they’re doing but they laugh a lot behind the green door
Green Door? Is this the long-awaited crossover with Al Ewing’s Immortal Hulk?
Yes*
*no evidence used in answer
I’ve read Immortal Hulk from end to end but sad to say, I was thinking of Shakin Stevens
As long as you weren’t thinking of Marilyn Chambers
I was thinking of Marilyn Chambers
What’s that secret you’re keeping?
Is that an eyeball peeking through a smoky cloud behind the green door (green door)?
Never apologise for thinking of the Welsh Elvis.
Mecha-calliope and Nature Trail to Hell — in 3-D.
It’s the One-Man-Band-800!
v.Wendigo!
The anteater reminds me of Marion Parry’s illustrations for “A Space Child’s Mother Goose”.
Death’s Head the musical
I see: a mecha born of a pipe-organ!
I’m still rooting for the return of the cheroonear. (And if that means we also get an appearance by Archibald, I’ll not be complaining.)
The mechanical man is definitely an upgraded Robert Cop (after he changed careers and went into music).
well, when the business takes off hopefully we will also see CHARLOTTE GROTE: SOLVENT
Strips paint! Thins varnish! Cleans off the toughest sharpie!
Extremely useful powers for the guardianship life.
Wait! A giant sloth, and a science-fictiony musical instrument? It’s a Megatheremin!
barista bot vs the avocado eater
Trying to coin a clever portmanteau between “Terminator” and “Harmonica”, so far “Harminator” is winning over “Termonica”.
Presumably she’ll be entertaining us with her solutions to the Telegraph crossword?
Behind Blue(berry) Eyes:
Orchestrion, leader of the Autobuskers, teams up with Rock Sloth and Lottie to bring down The Greenery Man (aka Roger Daltrey).
Perhaps the megatherium has always dreamed of fronting a metal band, but being a member of an extinct genus of megafauna, he’s a bit unclear on the concept?
