Very street. Most peng.

In today’s comic Lottie’s depleted mystery solving skills are cruelly revealed. This is not her A game. It’s her Z game. There are additional “subtexts” but we’ll get to those.
The yellow outlines on her coat – gorgeous
Mildred’s enjoying this so much. I think she’s missed mystery-solving.
Beautiful first panel. Lottie’s and Maggie sure have a great way to spend time together ♡♡♡.7
Oh Mildred, how I have missed thee.
Glad to see this duo back in classic sleuthing mode.
Little help, please! What does “sixth form college” translate to in the American education system?
It’s an educational institution for 16-18 year olds, normally focused on academic education. Like the last two years of school (traditionally called “sixth form”) separated out into a separate institution.
Ooh, did Griswolds lose its sixth form anyway even with the Wen-Tack arc decanonized? Or did Mildred’s parents pull her out after the school went into special measures.
Is Wen-Tack canon anymore? (also please put it back up John I promise it’s great)
It appears Lottie is saying she never went but Mildew did.
I guess Lottie must have gone to sixth form somewhere, because at the start of Wicked Things she’s about to go to university. Just not at the college with Mildred.
Griswolds had a integrated sixth form in Modern Men (and it has a common room).
Sorry to bother you but when was the wen tac arc Decanonized? Was this either in wicked things or patreon content?
I just didn’t have anywhere to put it on the site and didn’t think it was very good. Picture a clock with no hands and no face and that’s how much time I spend thinking about whether something I have done is “canon” or not. All the Wen Tack events happened. They just weren’t any good.
A lot of us enjoyed Wen Tack, though. Are you besmirching our taste?
I guess I am but not with disregard for your feelings. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Begging to differ sir, but Wen-Tack was a glorious story, and Zebus the Warrior Child and his family remain a source of inspiration to me to this day.
“Look. You’re from a rich culture, and so are we.”
“Are you making a *broadsword*?”
I still remember that strip fondly.
As do I!
That was a standout, and so was “MY SON HAS BEEN IN BATTLE. DID YOU FIGHT WELL, BOY?”
“Yeah dad! Many foes!”
Oh, now I remember that! I liked that story!
That has refreshed my memory, too.
I loved it!
“Mildred! The terrible chain of events you set in motion is on TV!”
No place to put it? This Internet thing has room for infinite electrons. Didn’t you have a site for odd side projects? I’m sure I recall reading those.
I liked it, although I can’t always say that what I like is the same as being good. But if you’re not happy with it, it’s fine to not keep it in the archives. (I had actually been assuming it wasn’t in canon since it was taken off the site, so at least knowing it still officially happened is good.) (But I think this is the type of thing that fans tend to think about more than creators, isn’t it?)
Maybe do the “Wen-Tack Special Edition”, and add Desmond to every panel? All comics are better with Desmond.
Turns out I’m a fool as I thought wen-tack was the final bad machinery arc but since I re-read that last week It must be something else
Joining the chorus to have Wen-Tack restored somewhere. Canon or non-canon, I enjoyed it very much.
There’s a PDF if you want to read it again.

There were some lovely strips in this story, and I was enjoying getting to know the new kids. It did feel like you were out of your comfort zone a little bit at times, but it was funny and surprising. I was disappointed when it ended so quickly! Wouldn’t mind seeing what happened to Grendel, Zebus and the others…
I was writing two full comic books’ worth of material (By Night and Giant Days) a month then having to write more material to draw myself. I did my best but I can tell what a hard time I was having.
This is probably a good spot to remind you of how grateful we are for all of the entertainment you’ve provided us over the years.
You’re a good egg!
Cheers Vlad, I have very kind readers. It’s a pretty good relationship when they like something you made more than you did.
Cheers! Enjoyed. Shelly’s appearance in Ryan’s English class made my day.
I just did, and I liked it. Thank you for putting it up.
Aha! I thought I was going crazy – I could’ve sworn that at some point there were post-Bad Machinery stories involving tunnel boring, Linton doing unboxing videos, etc. but couldn’t find them anywhere. Didn’t occur to me you might’ve removed them, so thanks for the PDF!
And to echo Vlad’s comment – thank you for all the stories! Even though you may feel the Wen-Tack stuff isn’t quite up to snuff, I’ve yet to read anything you’ve done where i thought: “meh, he’s just phoning it in now”. Cheers!
Bless you!
May you always have a roof over your head and food on your table.
And may you never step on Lego or meet Michael Gove.
Mr Allison you are a saint.
This made me laugh out loud several times. Every character is strong to the point where I was marveling at how strange and wonderful it was possible to make normal-ish human beings. Shows you’re good eh, if your trash is our treasure
Megnetised fob? Better pray she doesn’t put her keys in the same pocket as her phone!
I don’t think you can degauss an ssd
Putting it in the same place as her credit (or debit) card would be the greater risk.
(Assuming that she’s allowed a credit (or debit) card.)
Magnetic swipe cards? How quaint!
Not sure it would be too dangerous there, either – most physical credit/debit transactions nowadays use the chip instead of the magnetic strip.
Huh, you’re right. I just spent too many years remembering not to put magnets near credit cards.
Why does Mildred want to get inside an empty shop?
Let’s assume she’s not doing for the good of Lottie’s ability to capture boys.
I think she’s mostly trying to get Lottie out of her funk by interesting her in mysteries again.
They’re trying to work out how the circus people get in there.
It’s obvious.
They are CIRCUS PEOPLE.
It seems that it’s Mildred’s M game though.
Today I learned that “peng” is a word.
And here we have a sighting of Chekhov’s Magnet in the wild!
Crap. Please delete both of my comments in this thread. Didn’t mean to reply.
Way back in Scary-Go-Round, when Lottie was but a mini-Grote, her sister said (to Esther) something to the effect that Lottie’s friendship was all that was preventing Shauna from becoming a mother at age 14. Or Something Like That. Shauna and Lottie have left age 14 far behind them, of course, yet their absence from each other’s vicinity seems…faintly ominous. Or maybe that’s just me. That’s probably it.
I miss Shauna but assume she is now off at Cambridge. She was the carefully bred uber brains of the town.
Oof, I hope not. That’s a recipe for burnout if ever I’ve heard one.
I love the security-camera perspective of the last panel.
