I nicked it this morning
Just to note, Mildred did not nick that car. It is her personal “smoker”. Mildred nicking a car only only happened once, years ago, and it was very necessary.

The worst part, as I recall, wasn’t nicking it — it was trying to drive it.
But we all have to admit that she also did some technically perfect parallel parking.
Lottie has a lot of good intentions for the day. But I’ve a weird feeling, like that she won’t be able to follow them. I’m almost sorry for her, almost.
With Mildred, I’m not sure if she’s joking.
Oh, how I’ve missed this mischievous duo. All we need now is their former voice of moral conscious, Shauna.
I hope Shauna is living a good life. She deserves it. Studying architecture at uni?
The subject of Shauna does come up (briefly) in the page that runs on February 26th.
Feburary 26th? Good god man! You’re taking this forward planning seriously. If only you had been in charge of Brexit.
I would have loved to hear the negotiations about the quotas for the Fishmans
“Thanks, I nicked it this morning”
And I am going to nick that line and tuck it away for future use.
Shouldn’t Mildred be off at university? Does this take place during a break? Am I confused by the British education system?
If you are, I’m wagering you’re not the only one.
AFAIK there are no college truant officers. College students are free to attend or skip classes at their whim. After all, the college already HAS the students’ money. If the students want to waste said money by not attending the classes that it paid for, well, that’s not really any of the college’s business, is it? 😉
So, from the end of the last case as children to Wicked Things there was nothing in between right, for the Mystery Kids? I just finished all of Wicked Things and want to be sure my continuity is correct!
That’s right, there are no appearances in between. If Wicked Things comes back, or if this stopgap webcomic runs for a few stories, we might find out more of what Lottie got up to in the two-year interim.
Thank you, sir!
They appeared in some of the New Bobbins stories after the end of Bad Machinery, although they weren’t the main characters. (And the Wen-Tack storyline, but that never happened, so I don’t know why I’m mentioning it.)
So how old would Grendel, Sumitra, and the two kids whose names I don’t remember be now? Has the mantle been passed to Lottie’s younger brother, Sonny’s younger cousin, and whoever else in that age group might be hanging around in the strip(s) somewhere? It’ll still be a while yet before Walter Chilton-Beckwith, Peggy Winters-Jones, and the like can step up to the plate. Unless I’m Wrong.
“the Wen-Tack storyline, but that never happened”
I regret that I don’t know what that means. 😐
I don’t suppose there are any two-to-three-paragraph summaries of “Wicked Things,” the first chapter of “Steeple,” and so on floating around here anywhere, are there? Yeah, figures, I thought as much. 😐
Well, there’s Shauna’s younger brother, Humphrey… http://scarygoround.com/badmachinery/index.php?date=20100415
and Sonny’s younger sister, Cecile (who would be Mildew’s cousin, if I’m not mistaken)…

Wait, has the Wen-Tack storyline been unpersonned at some point when I wasn’t looking?
I’m concerned about Charlotte’s mucky feet being on the carseat. Can we get a confirmation whether she’s taken her shoes off?
Or, as the first panel only shows her wearing socks, whether she has remembered to put shoes on at all?
This comment doesn’t need to be shared, I just wanted to point out that “suddenly” in the last panel is missing a ‘d.’ Sorry for probably being the millionth person to point this out.
Typo fixed: Nov 18th 2020. Fix uploaded: about 17 hours late.
You Brits and your crazy “driver on the wrong side” cars. I know you only do it so we Americans have something we can feel like a normal part of the rest of the world about by comparison, and I for one appreciate it. Especially now.
I hope the fact that the UK isn’t the only country where people “drive on the wrong side” of the road doesn’t spoil anything for you. 😉
Oh, I’m aware of that (and I figured soemone would mention it). Those countries are in the minority, however. From Wikipedia: “Left-hand traffic (LHT) and right-hand traffic (RHT) are the practices, in bidirectional traffic, of keeping to the left side or to the right side of the road, respectively. They are fundamental to traffic flow, and are sometimes referred to as the rule of the road.[1]
RHT is used in 165 countries and territories, with the remaining 75 countries and territories using LHT.[2] Countries that use LHT account for about a sixth of the world’s land area, with about a third of its population and a quarter of its roads.[3] In 1919, 104 of the world’s territories were LHT and an equal number were RHT. Between 1919 and 1986, 34 of the LHT territories switched to RHT.[4]
Many of the countries that adopted LHT were formerly part of the British Empire, although some, such as Sweden (which is now RHT), Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Nepal, Macao, and Suriname, to name a few, were not. Similarly, many of the countries that were a part of the French colonial empire adopted RHT.
In LHT traffic keeps left, and cars usually have the steering wheel on the right (RHD – right hand drive), putting the driver on the side closer to the centre of the road. Roundabouts circulate clockwise. RHT is the opposite of this: traffic keeps right, the driver usually sits on the left side of the car (LHD), and roundabouts circulate anticlockwise. “

Good to see Mildred saving the planet with an electric vehicle.
Yeah, you’d have thought we would have rebelled from the Glenys/Neil ultra-eco lifetyle by driving a gas guzzler — with chocolate stains on the seats. Though I guess at this age, her parents might well be paying for this vehicle, so she didn’t have a choice.
I meant, you’d have thought SHE would have rebelled. I know we would.
Is… is Mildred’s car another Nissan Micra? (It has the Nissan logo, and it looks generally like Hugh’s Micra, although not the same generation. Pretty close in color, though.) Guess Mildred was really impressed by the quality of her nicked car?
(Also, I’m probably thinking about this WAY too much.)
It’s a Leaf, the electric Nissan that runs on dreams (electricity)
Okay, yeah, that makes perfect sense for Mildred.
It’s a first-generation Nissan Leaf, with the charging port lid cover and eye-shaped headlamps.
does my heart good to see her called Mildew again
What’s hanging on the rear view mirror?
The creature from Charlotte’s coffee cup. 😉
Looks like the keys.
What’s a “smoker”?
It’s a phrase a friend of mine used to use for an old car that could be bought cheaply and run into the ground. They would tend to belch smoke, hence “smoker”.
ahhhhh, love it! i’m going to start using that.
I am tres late but I have an observation:
it cannot be a Smoker – That is a Nissan Leaf. It’s E L E C T R I C.
That doesn’t mean it can’t be a smoker.
It’s just very bad when the magic smoke gets out of your electric car.
oh bother. Someone already caught that. I am l’sad.
