Logistical bottlenecks
Welcome back for a whole new year of comics! What will they be? Beyond the first week of April, I can’t tell you (because I don’t know) but until then, a two-part Solver story. It’s got a small amount of Dean Thompson – I would say, just enough.
If you’re a Patreon subscriber ($3 a month up), you can download the whole of part 1 now.
Ominous Dean is Ominous.
(and something about the way he is drawn in that last panel makes him look like a Jack Kirby character)
I’ve been reaching for that sixties Marvel energy lately – there’s more of it (hopefully) in this story!
Happy New Year, John and my fellow readers.
“The All-Seeing Eye of Dean Thompson” sounds like a second rank Hammer film. One that’s billed as featuring Peter Cushing but he only appears in 20 seconds of footage cut from other more successful productions.
Still weird to see Dean so friendly and smiling (even if he recovers a bit in the last panel). I wonder if he has ever seen again that kind woman so friend to Claire? Dunno why, but I didn’t see Glenn has someone into jogging, it’s a pleasant surprise.
What do you mean you didn’t see Glenn as someone into jogging? Look at his figure!
Just now I see he has really good legs.
Oh no! Poor Gloom!
C’mon Dean, leave the poor kiwi. Glimbo has enough to worry about.
Glenn, Glym, Glem and Gloom all out for a jog in panel 1.
I see Glenn, Glem and Gloom but I fail to see Glym. Is this like Where’s Waldo?
Hidden behind the Mr. Softy van.
It’s like the second camel on the Camels cigarette package – you have to look behind the pyramid.
I see that despite finally finding the love of his life (or a human being that can actually more than just tolerate him), Dean Thompson is back to his misanthropic self again.
At least he respects Glenn enough to get his name right, unlike *some people*…
Not necessarily misanthropic; maybe Dean now fancies himself a busybody who can help others (whether or not they want his help).
I missed something. Who is the love of Dean’s life? Is he married? Are there Mini Dean’s?
See “Green Door” (https://badmachinery.com/comic/solver-green-door-starts-monday/).
Thanks, I seemed to have missed that story completely. Last time I saw Dean in love was when he fell for a buxom cooper.
I always thought deep down he was madly in love with Esther.
Logistical Bottleneck? Hmmm, I wonder.
Has this come up before in the comments? Apologies if it has and I’ve forgotten, but it just occurred to me to check, and yes, Glendurgan is the name of a place, and looks like it’s in Cornwall at that!

It’s come up before. I don’t remember exactly when. Maybe a couple of times.
Why is there an ice cream truck out at the crack of dawn? Unless Glum is an early evening runner – the color scheme says PM but his actions seem AM to me.
Parked up overnight!
I thought “Stop Me ‘n’ Buy One” was a Walls slogan. Ah, I just realised that the van is “Mr Softy” rather than “Mr Softee” so there may be some trademark avoidance in play. My childhood street was a battleground between “Mr Whippy” and a local company (Tartaglia’s). Not suprisingly folk on my current side of the Atlantic either misconstrue the name “Mr Whippy” or can’t believe it exists (“For children?!”). I see much the same response when I tell them that there’s a bedtime drink called “Horlicks”…
Oh man, I never noticed. Now, I can’t unnotice.
Oh no, Dean! I like him though. Trouble follows him! He tries so hard!

“Oric Sports”? Since when did Oric branch out into sportswear from their origins in the 8-bit computer world? (My OtherHalf would like one of those hoodies, I’m sure.)
About the same time Amstrad did.
Or perhaps the hoodie is a bit of swag prefiguring the move by Electronic Arts? We would always fight over who got to play as Argentina in Oric’s World Cup ’86.
