Only a tenner!
Does the bootleg merch stand still manifest outside music gigs? A good place to get a hoodie or tshirt where the sleeves fall off and the motif disintegrates on first wash. I’ve not been to a show at a university venue for years and those are where they seemed to have the most “purchase”.
Glormn
At least she remembers his last name. Very decent of her.
yes, bootleg merch is still rampant. I’m sure I’ve got t-shirts from the Barras here for John Grunt, Melt Y’self Fitter and a DJ set by Mary Ann Calvin
the logos all have a black background that is shinier than the black t-shirt they’re on. I console myself by thinking the vendors mums would be glad they know how to use an iron
(the second para is true, the typos are not. they do get colours badly wrong at times, and OH MY GOD THE KERNING. I’ve never seen any bootlegger attempt the merch of Bob Log III, which consist of underwear with letters glued on in what I can only imagine is a sweatshop for primary 2s, no pay but all the glitter and pritt-stick you can eat)
Apparently Alfie hasn’t washed his hand since the first time we saw him.
I’m just glad we get to see him again. I was worry that he’d wasted his life as a minor one-shot character. Good for him, figuring out how to get back in the story for a second appearance.
That’s a tattoo he did to himself. Based on a real life observation.
THAT’S ALFIE?????? So that’s why he was vaguely familiar! Good job John A! (Rendering an aged character so well that he was vaguely recognized.) A+ comics drawing.
Someone, PLEASE remind me who Alfie is?
He’s that fellow whom we all ask what it’s all about.
Otherwise known as Michael Caine.
A student Gremlin Durgan was advising back at the beginning of “Green Door”.
Fruit picking, sports massage and bootleg merchandise vending — that famous triad.
Gordon Durgfoot
The evergreen optimism of the bootlegger – that they think it is worth their while to knock off aspirational acts such as D Slide.
See, you say that but I feel like I’d definitely swap a tenner for a D Slide T Shirt.
And so it begins.
Come Glorfindel! We must not miss the first act. Entertainment is not for the weak of heart.
The more this story goes on, the more I become sure that there will be soon an epic fight by Claire and Glenn against Lottie.
Oh God, you’re right. Lottie is using Go Kart Conspiracy songs, isn’t she? I don’t know how Claire is going to react to that.
Bad, VERY bad!
I wonder how Shauna will take it, she had written Black Metal songs, hearing them sung like K-Pop might traumatize her forever.
Can the Bobbinsverse possibly survive such a battle of titans?!
I’m very afraid about it.
They are pretty fairly matched. They would be epic nemesis. Nemeses? Nemesi. Is this the Claire/Lottie super-rival origin story???
glenn and claire are not beating the x-files accusations in those fits
Hmm. Glam Durgan sounds like a small Scottish melee weapon.
‘Grum Durgan’ sounds like a Scottish folk rock band from 1973. I’d imagine them doing Neil Young covers in Glaswegian accents.
Later, “The Wreck of the F. Scott Fitzgerald” was their attempt to make the radio. Gordon Lightfoot beat them by a week.
I had a bootleg Pixies t-shirt from the Doolittle tour where the print lasted years longer than the one on the official shirt I also bought that night. I still have the official one and the only reason I don’t still have the bootleg is because I outgrew it over time 🙁
I had a Tina Turner T-shirt which I bought at the old Wembley Stadium which was supposed to be her farewell tour. After many washings the picture slowly faded until, like the Cheshire cat, the only thing left was her smile.
Simply the best
The shirt I clung to long past its best-before date was Peter Gabriel’s from the “Security” tour. But nothing quite so poetic — the transfer just flaked off bit by bit. (I suppose I could have read a kind of “passed around in little pieces” vibe into it, but mostly it just ended up looking more ratty than metaphorical.)
The Glenn Synonym List makes me so happy, but what makes me even happier is the final, actual option is a slantwise further escalation that wasn’t on the list. So good.
Glenn Synonym, the linguist’s single-malt of choice.
Last panel – Just the hands, sending a semaphore message about Grim’s feelings on the Name Game. I like to think he had been shrugging it off or oblivious until now but having it so on this official list is irksome
he already showed signs of reacting 9negatively) to Lottie’s little game back at the begining of this story: https://badmachinery.com/comic/your-traditional-breakfast/
(Panel 5)
My brother drove a Gremlin. I wouldn’t want someone to call me that, either.
Shelley remarked on “the smell of Griswolds… still exactly the same” on some occasion when she was back at there doing a PA. And I know exactly what she and Claire mean.
The smell of *your* school and *a* school are both instantly recognizable but on vastly different levels
TIL the real-world Sheffield has a school called King Ecgbert’s, which (1) looks like a typo but (2) isn’t as weird a spelling of that king’s name as the one Wikipedia uses: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecgberht,_King_of_Wessex
It’s from ecg, “edge”, and beorht, “bright”.
